A great Indy adventure
Indiana Jones and the Unicorn's Legacy is the fifth of twelve Indiana Jones novels published in the 1990s. This series, officially licensed by Lucasfilm, is inspired by the Indiana Jones character who first appeared in 1981 with the movie Raiders of the Lost Ark. Rob MacGregor authored the first six books including The Unicorn's Legacy. Martin Caidin wrote the seventh and eighth books, and Max McCoy wrote the last four. The events of this book take place in 1786, 1924, and 1928. This story combines elements typically found in an Indiana Jones adventure: an artifact of mythological significance (the horn of a unicorn), unique and interesting places (France, the American Southwest, and Rome), and enemies old (Roland Walcott) and new (Diego Calderone) presenting a myriad of problems for Indiana Jones. Jack Shannon and Marcus Brody play important roles in the story.I did like this book, I enjoyed learning about prehistoric cave art in Europe, Mesa Verde, Hovenweep, and Rome. While the book makes references to events from the previous books, it can be read and understood by itself. If you like action, adventure, and historical/archaeological mysteries, then you will like this Indiana Jones novel.

Time marches on
Indiana Jones is portrayed as an archaeologist, a connoisseur of homo sapiens' origin and development, not an anthropologist. I expect him to be under attack of ancient traps or curses which serve as an introduction to the rest of the book. Since this does not occur in several of the books I have read, I assume the author is at fault, not my expectations. Furthermore I expect the books to be written for adaptation into movies but they are too poorly written for that, or would cost too much to produce as written. He is not a superman but I expect greater abilities from him than are shown. He stumbles out of predicaments he should nor have gotten into through coincidence, not abilities. I wonder how can anyone share empathy with such a character? The author, Rob MacGregor, shows ability but does not develop it. In the Unicorn's Legacy Mac lets the unicorn cast a shadow over most of the adventures in the book but he never swings either way, was there or was there not an unicorn in the world at any time, particularly near prehistory? An archaeologist would have some opinion about that, some shreds of his opinions and could cite evidence to lend credence to his opinions, maybe even enough to sway others to his point of view. Jones does not, he is content, for some unknown reason, to keep his mouth shut, even to help hide anything which might make unicorns real. How can anyone believe in Indiana Jones? Is the bullwhip enough? I don't think so and I never found anything else sufficient to reify his character.

One of the Better Indy-MacGregor Novels
Pretty interesting Indy Adventure; not as good as the previous novel, The Genesis Deluge, but still pretty good! It is important to note that these Indy Novels are nothing compared to the first 3 Raiders movies. And some of these novels are not too good, but this entry is one of the better reads for the Indy fans, who are following this book series.

it's very interesting to see how Indy really became the man we grew to love on the big screen
As a die hard Indiana Jones fan it was no question that I had to read all these novels. With all of them taking place before the events of Raiders of the Lost Ark, it's very interesting to see how Indy really became the man we grew to love on the big screen.

Great book.
Interesting read with a slightly different format then how Indiana goes through his adventures. Thrown into the whole event blind and having to figure things out show the writers ability to portray Indiana well in having to improvise as things go along. Great book.
