Rose's Painful Redemption
Rose’s Redemption is the ninth book in the Red Petticoat Saloon Series. Dinah McLeod reintroduces readers to Rose Gallagher, a soiled dove, and Thomas Rockwell, a widower with a six-year-old daughter, Polly. Readers met them in earlier books in this series. Rose’s life has scarred her and left her jaded. The catalyst to this emotional outcome stems from the fact that prostitution is the only constant in Rose’s life. It starts with her mother, continues with her older sister, and ends with Rose. Thomas met Rose at his brother’s wedding. He found her attractive, but he could not come to terms that she was a soiled dove. Time passes and Fate brings these two into each other’s orbit. Rose’s emotional development was skewed. She was never exposed to a loving relationship. Will Rose find happiness?Ms. McLeod penned a riveting character-driven plot. The two lead characters are strong, reserved, and emotionally wounded. There is a chemistry between them, however, they work to dismiss it. I liked that Ms. McLeod used secondary characters, such as William and Louise Rockwell, Madam Jewel, and Gabe to enhance this story. She also used them to provide a sense of continuity to the other books in this series. I enjoyed the way Ms. McLeod used dialog and flashbacks to reveal Rose’s sad past. The same goes for Thomas when dealing with the decreasing memory of his deceased wife. It did seem predictable that Ms. McLeod used Rose’s former john, John, as the villain and add suspense to her plot. I would have appreciated if Ms. McLeod would have used him to build the suspense. However, I do feel that the real villain was the effect of stereotypes and harsh circumstances afforded single women who did not have the protection of family or a man. This type of situation caused Rose to suffer emotional collateral damage. I found it odd that betrothed and married women were subjected to domestic discipline on such a consistent basis. I am curious as to whether such actions were the norm during this time. Ms. McLeod included numerous occasions where Rose was spanked. Despite the spanking incidents, I enjoyed reading this book and I plan to continue to read the other books in this series. Happy Reading!

ONCE UPON A TIME
I enjoyed this addition to the Red Petticoat Saloon Series and with this book we met Rose a girl who has only known prostitution her entire life, from her mother, then her sister, to herself. Rose’s mother used to tell her fairy tales when she was a child, with her being the loving daughter of the King and Queen. The problem was, she asked about her father, but never got an answer, and as time has gone on, no white knight has come to rescue the Princess. Rose Quartz is a jaded woman but has accepted her lot in life, that being a whore. Thomas Rockwell is a widower with a daughter, Polly. He is building his home and has his brother, Will, the mayor of Culpepper Cove and his wife Louise, a former Gem Lapis, help him with Polly. Overhearing a crass conversation at a tavern, with threats against Rose, he alerts Madam Jewel and Gabe. Rose tries to play the whole thing off and upsets Jewel, Gabe, and Thomas. The plot has Rose being put under extra protection to avoid a John who wants to do her harm and has boasted about making her pay. Thomas wasn’t looking for a wife, but there is something that draws him to Rose. What starts out as an act of kindness, becomes a lesson in respect and safety with the blessings of Gabe. The story has several intense moments, plenty of angst, emotional moments, flashbacks from childhood, and learning that someone really can care for you as a person. Maybe Rose will get her white knight to come and rescue her and a chance to live happily ever after. The story has plenty of punishments, and all well deserved. Rose is sassy, argumentative and Thomas knows how to deal with her, even in a woodshed. “If you are fishin’ for compliments, you better find another pond.”

Life is Hard
Another wonderful installment in the Red Petticoat series. This time instead of a young girl who has had a sudden change of fortune who is forced into working at the Red Petticoat we have a true professional. Circumstance forced Rose's decision years before. But Jonas has some other ideas. Jonas is ready to do the hard work of getting Rose right where he wants her.The feelings that Rose exhibits seem very real. She has strengths but she is also vulnerable. It is always hard to trust and rely on someone when you have taken care of yourself for so long. I love that Jonas' feelings are so true for Rose and somethings don't matter. I don't want to say in what area because it would spoil the story but you'll understand when you read this great story.

Great edition to the red petticoat series
Dinah McLeod did a really fantastic job on her book in the series. This is my favorite because she wrote a great story of Rose and Tom. Rose being a life time prostitute and Thomas the good citizen and rancher. This was a touching and very descriptive story with many emotions. The story was good enough but the spanking and sex scenes were very well descriptive. I read this bad with great interest and couldn't put it down which lead me to read it quicker than any book I have ever read. This a must read by an author who did a magnificent job. I very highly recommend this book

Another fine Red Petticoat story
Another wonderful story from the Red Petticoat Saloon series. Rose is a prostitute who meets a widower from her town who punishes her for not taking care of her safety, and later realizes he is falling in love with her. As time passes, he learns that she is pregnant with his child, and he decides to marry her. She agrees, and also takes on the responsibility for his 6 year old daughter and learning to manage a home. Through a series of punishments and warm times with her husband and new daughter, she learns to trust and believe in herself, and to accept the way in which her life has changed.

Wonderful addition to the series
Oh, this was a tear jerker for me, but in the best way possible. Rose, grabbed my heartstrings and wouldn't let go. I just wanted to give her a huge hug. Thomas couldn't have been more compassionate if he tried. Their journey had some bumps in the road, but what a journey it was! Don't miss this fantastic romance!
