HydrophaneLeather Dressing - 17 Oz

I bought a saddle on eBay that was dried out and mouldy. I should have just tossed it but have been trying different products just to see if there was any way to save it. It's also a good way to give products a trial without risking fouling up good leather items. I gave it a thorough cleaning with both leather cleaner and saddle soap. Various conditioners didn't do much. This Hydrophane has worked magic. I've been using a brush to apply a light dressing and then repeating after that layer is absorbed. I am blown away by the improvement in the leather. This dressing has a thick consistency so it is easy to apply. I poured some in a porcelain cup and could leave it open to use for the next application and it didn't evaporate.

An older carriage driving bridle needed some TLC-and this stuff brought my stiff dry leather bridle back to life.

I have a 170 year old small thin leather piece that goes on my pocket watch chain, that connects to a button on a vest or pants. I had a jeweler clean the sterling silver chain and in doing it the leather came back stiff as a board. My heart sank and I started looking for a product to restore the softness of this leather. I tried working in some saddle soap, but that didn't work. Then I went online and watched some YouTube videos on leather restoration and this product came up. I soaked the leather piece for several days working this product into the leather. The leather is now soft and pliable and I'm one happy camper.

waited for several weeks for this product to arrive to go on a new saddle. According to research this is suppose to really soften new leather but it did not do that so much as just made the leather water proof. another thing it did is prime the leather for a conditioner that a lot of times makes the leather darker. It did not darken the new saddle at all, so I guess it was worth that much. Not even a later neatsfoot treatment changed the color of my saddle. The only thing that can soften new leather saddle fenders and latigo is to use them:)

I have used this for many years on horse tack and can confirm that it is the best dressing available, especially for new leather. If you paint the underside of the leather several times with Hydrophane, it will drink up the dressing and become fully waterproof and much softer. Subsequent light applications will maintain good condition. This time, I got some for a new collar for my puppy and a new leather belt, and it soon became lovely and soft. It does make the leather go darker in colour, so perhaps best used on brown rather than on coloured handbags etc.

Item arrived earlier than expected, but no complaints! I ordered the large one, and its a decent size to last for the year on my bridles! 100% recommend this product to any horse person, especially if you have a brand new bridle that is really stiff! I will be buying again! Thank you! (:
