King of the Wind: The Story of the Godolphin Arabian

Beautiful Story
This is an old book whose story is timeless, for horse lovers and people who believe in destiny and the resilience of God's creations human and animal alike, this book takes the reader on a journey in the beautiful, yet often daunting lives of a boy and a horse with an unbreakable bond and kindred spirit between them. It shares the pure potency of destiny and fate and proves that obstacles, come as they may, cannot and will not keep one from one is meant for them. Also bloodlines run deep. I definitely enjoyed reading "King of the Wind" Side Note: My love for crystals and their healing energies and benefits to many living beings bought me to this book, however the actual crystals that were used in a protection amulet for horses were not actually mentioned. Lol. Still a great read though.

My favorite book from childhood, still magical today
As a child, I read this book several times, along with most of the rest of Marguerite Henry's horse books. I was reminded of it recently and thought I'd see how it held up 50 years later. It seemed much shorter than I remembered :) but was every bit as magical. I had to choke back tears in places and felt my face almost hurt from grinning with joy in others. While the book is clearly aimed at younger readers, it's not dummed down or overly-simplified.I highly recommend this book for anyone who loves horses. It is filled with rich descriptions, interesting characters and realistic emotions, and from the bibliography at the back, it is also a very well researched book. Its a great gift for the horse-lover in your life.

A Beautiful Classic
I remember reading this book when I was younger and it still evokes stong memories and feelings. It holds a place with other horse classics that I cherish. You'll find that humans can be intentuonally cruel, thoughtless, kind, well intentioned and clumsy, strong or weak. This shows such a strong bond between Agba and Sham. They always find eachother again. They go through so much and in the end you can rest peacefully knowing they are happy.

King of the Wind
King of the Wind is one of my favorite books of all time. My mother bought it for me after it received the Newberry Award back in the 1940s--I was around 10 at the time and I was in love with horses! I've read the book numerous times as a child and then later as an adult as I was an elementary teacher in 4th grade; I read it to my class every year still using my original copy from childhood. Hurricane Wilma in 2005 destroyed many of my beloved books, including this one. I was thrilled to be able to find a pefect copy from Amazon.com of the hardback edition with a "brand-new" book jacket and it had all the beautiful paintings made by Wesley Dennis. The copy I bought was published before the book won the Newbery. I still love the wonderful story of the beautiful horse who was the father of many of the racing giants in history, including the great Man-of-War. Sham, King of the Wind, was loved by the mute stable boy Agba from Morocco and the story is a classic, filled with the tragedies and triumphs of that beloved horse and the boy who loved him.

Beautiful edition with all the original pictures.
I was given this book when I was a child, and I treasure it still. I was so happy to find it available for my granddaughter's birthday. It is a wonderful story based on true happenings and the beginning of the thoroughbred breed of horses. It also gives a small, sensitive window into the Muslim religion which was all I ever knew about it until I was an adult. It is my favorite of the Marguerite Henry/Wesley Dennis books.

Classic for young readers that love horses!
This was a gift for my grand niece. I remember loving this book as a young girl, and what a wonderful story it was about horse history! It is still magnificent literature for young readers 50 years later!

Brings back beautiful memories
My mom and I read this book together when I was a little girl. We both loved horses and she owned several prize-winning Arabians that she trained and entered in horse shows. Finding this book on Amazon after all these years and my mom’s passing was a very emotional experience for me. I cried like a baby! I’d forgotten how much I loved this story and how wonderfully it is written and illustrated. Reading it brought back so many memories of my mom’s soft and loving voice as she read to me about Sham and Agba. Thank you Amazon!

Brilliant book
I was very pleased when this book arrived as I bought it to replace a very old copy I found I had. This gave me the opportunity to read a new white papered copy. The story is all about the Godolphin Arabian horse who was one of three stallions that founded the modern Thoroughbred. So I am really looking forward to reading it.

A childhood favourite
This was one of my favourite books as a child so I bought this just to see if it would be as good as I remembered. And it is. It is the charming story of a mute Arab stable boy and his love for a horse who possesses the marks of speed and of misfortune. The horse eventually becomes the Godolphin Arabian, sire of some of the best racehorses ever. Any young girl who is going through that 'horsey' phase that many of us do, will love it.
