Happy wet plants
Does exactly what designed to do with no Hassel. Plants get dosed each morning at sunrise, even though unit is on shady side of house. A desirable option would be if had version that could be set to gallons instead of minutes- they have a different unit that uses gallons but does not have the sunrise timer. Would be perfect for places with water usaeage restrictions.

A bit confusing
Not 100% sure what I think of this yet, it seemed to be working ok and then one night when I was in the porch it came on a second time. Not sure why it came on since it had already been daylight for hours. Im using it for a sprinkler system so for now its ok

Great idea but poor longevity
I bought this to control the drip system for a small orchard I planted along my driveway. Arrived promptly and was well packaged. Easy to attach to the hose bib and no drips. Added two fresh AA batteries and all was wonderful for about 5 weeks. Then I noticed water running down the gutter which was strange since we've had no rain for weeks. I tracked the water back to the orchard and then discovered the that the drip system was still running, even thought it was 2 in the afternoon and should have shut off 90minutes after sunrise. Turned it to off and it still ran. Changed batteries and it still ran so I removed it and went to hand watering. It was a week past the return period but I contacted Melnor and they promptly sent me a new one under their warranty. Great! It lasted a month before it wouldn't turn on. So, I can't recommend this product. Their warranty is good but their product isn't.

FINALLY! A timer that works
I've tried different types of auto watering systems to keep my plants alive when we travel. This is the first one that worked. It turned on after daylight and turned off in 30 minutes as set. I'm pleased after my first 10 day usage.

Couldn't be easier
If you're looking for simple, this is it. Attach this to your faucet, attach your hose to this device, turn on the water faucet. Move the dial to the number of minutes you want the faucet to run. That's it.Every morning when the sun comes up, the water will turn on and run for the amount of time you've dialed it to run.

Must have for pools or sprinklers
Purchased this to automatically put more water in my pool during the months that water seems to evaporate a little more quickly. For the most part 5 minutes a day works perfectly. When the sun comes up, the water kicks on and puts a little water into the pool automatically. Once the time is up, it shuts off. This thing is genius. You can also use it to sprinkle your lawn automatically (think new grass) or for a garden. It has a manual on/off if you want to turn the water on, so it makes it very easy to use.

Exactly like one I got locally, and just as good.
I bought one like this a local store last year tho use with a soaker hose for a small hedgerow. I am just pleased as punch with goes well it worked. So when I decided to lay drip irrigation around my entry flower beds I knew I another one of these. The price was the same, but I was getting the rest of the supplies from Amazon. Figured I might as well get everything on the same transaction. Works just as well as the one from last year.

Frustrated!
I've bought four Melnor timers over the years. The first one, model 3012, purchased about twenty years ago lasted for about eight years and the second one, same model, bought about 6 years ago is still working. The third one, purchased 3 years ago, started leaking water through the system right away. I thought it was the tap connection at first so I put it on a different tap and it did the same thing. I tried new washers to no avail and finally gave up. I recently purchased the Sunrise model on June 18th and it worked fine until yesterday. I tried it on manual and it still wouldn't work so I thought it was the batteries. I changed the batteries and the battery light didn't even blink, so I tried a new set just to make sure and the light still didn't go on. The battery compartment is clean so there shouldn't be a problem and the unit is protected under a large eave anyway. It seems that maybe they're not making them as well as they used to, or it's a hit and a miss when you buy one now.

Works fine if sunrise is normal.
Does really depend on where you have this as the light sensor is very temperamental to daylight conditions. Example was - one morning it was overcast, due to this & its position at the side of my house. It came on later than was timed too! As most local city authorities are bringing in water restrictions for water conservation, & regulating the watering to specific day/times, this glitch may cause you to break the bylaws.

Stopped working
Worked great super easy to use but only lasted for a short time then stopped working a little disappointed to come back from a week away only to find garden was dry.

Short life
Did not last long. Comes on some cloudy days when it goes dark then light. No other settings only duration of watering.
