Good inserts vs spenco, superfeet, pinnacle, pedag.
Shock doctor insert not bad.I have tried super feet green, sorbothane ultra, spenco polysorb total, pinnacle power step, pedag inserts. I am a large man and these were all tried in Merrill jungle moc's.Super feet are the hardest, clean up nicest, but cause your feet to sweat the most. Longest lasting of all inserts. surface hard not cloth covered like others. I rate these as good. $36Sorbothane ultra were the softest, had a nice foam feeling. Only had these two weeks but are comfortable. Don't have the support of super feet, shock doctor, pinnicale, or spenco. Thickest also. Not sure how they will hold up during cleaning. will update this after break in. $40 (also most expensive)Spenco polysorb total. Cloth covered that is anti micro to hold down odors. Two problems I have experienced are the cloth near the heel has come unglued making wrinkles (I can't Stand) and the other the problem the plastic arch has cracked in left shoe in two diff pairs. These clean up nice but with cloth pealing and arch cracking I wouldn't buy them again. $24Pinnacle power step is a cloth covered support insert. These are ok supports that are well made and clean up nice. Support isn't as strong as the shock doctor, supperfeet or spenco. I rate these as average. $22Pedag inserts were a natural product. I did not like these at all and rate them average to poor. (did not like them so they had shortest time in shoes) $13Shock doctors are a cloth covered I sert with strong support. They clean up nice just like spenco and pinnacle. The shock doctor ultra's are my favorite insert currently. I have purchased 3 pairs for my shoes. I rate these as good. $30

Metatarsal support is too intrusive and too far back
I agree with two of the other reviewers in that the spongy red foam which comprises the metatarsal support in the Shock Doctor Ultra 2 Insoles ruins an otherwise solid design. It makes my feet uncomfortable as well (and I have high arches). However, it is possible to carefully peel off the red foam from the underside without damaging the insole, as it is held in place with a rather cheap glue. I would recommend spending a little bit more on a higher-quality, more comfortable design from Superfeet, SOLE Custom Footbeds, or currexSole (formerly known as Footdisc).

knock offs, don't blame shock doc brand, its bad
Word of warning. This version is a knock off. Go to the shock doc web site and see the correct design and color. Buyer beware.

I bought 3 pair of these and was happy for a while
I bought 3 pair of these and was happy for a while. After a year or so the rigid arch support on all of them broke and pieces of plastic fell out of my shoes. One day my plantar faciitus returned with a vengance. As soon as I replaced these broke insoles I had relief. If I am going to spend $35 on a special insole I think it should last as long as the shoe!

Good support, but has fatal flaw
These inserts are very supportive in the heel and mid-foot with good arch support. They also provide good support for those who have pronation (lean inwards) or supination (lean outwards) problems. Now for the bad news. They have no friction material so you slide on them unless you tie your shoes extremely tight. But the worst part is there is absoultly no padding at all in the toe areaI am on my feet all day long on concrete and need some padding for my toes. You would think that for $30 you would get padding. My quest continues, to find a insole that has these qualities.
