It works surprisingly well!
I bought this because I wanted to try out ice fishing with minimal investment. Lots of friends and Internet articles laugh off hand augers as a stupid amount of work. I am not in shape and had no problems and honestly don't think I'll buy a power one for several years. I didn't even start getting winded until I had dug several holes in succession.EDIT:(I wrote this review early in the season. I can dig several holes through 4 inch ice over the course of a morning. When the ice thickened to 10-12 inches, my shoulders were toast after one hole.)Arrived extremely sharp. I found that the amount of weight pushing down on it makes a HUGE difference, so really lean in on it instead of trying to let the blades do the work like you would a saw.

Perfect.
It is rare to find a tool that is simple, cheap, and does exactly what you ask it to and more. This is a perfect tool.

Works great and good quality.
This worked really well and was pretty easy to get through about 8" of ice. Later in the season we had about 20+ inches and this was a chore. If you're just pan fishing, I would recommend getting a 6" instead and save your arm. I did make a drill attachment and that made using this substantially easier. I didn't get one of the attachments you can buy on here because if they fall out of your drill, down through the hole they go. I made one out of rebar and welded a nut driving bit to the end, then attached a small board perpendicular to the rebar so if it drops out, the board will catch it. The very first hole I drilled the bit came out as I was pulling the auger back up and I just watched it fall and the board stopped it perfectly.

Manual, but cut the first 50 holes just fine
Great value, large 8" hole works fine with my fishing line and depthfinder in the same hole, and can pull up most fish without tangles. Even sometimes fish two lines in one hole. So 8" is great size. The bit does take some work to back out sometimes, but I think it's when I am not drilling straight enough. It's also lighter than I expected which is a bonus. Working just fine after about 50 holes on several trips. Keep the guard on the blade for your protection and to keep it sharp! Don't sense it's gotten dull as of now.I recommend it, and might buy a small 4" one for quick test holes if they make that.

Drills a very clean hole... quickly.
This auger is very well made and will cut through a foot of ice in under a minute. The blades are incredibly sharp and you need to be very careful when handling this auger. Use the included blade guard and realize in only installs in one direction.I read reviews where people said the blades came loose. Mine were tight but... I did put blue thread locker on the threads and re tightened them so this wouldn’t be an issue. This is the only ice auger I’ve ever used, but I noticed dozens of other anglers using the same one out on the lake.Buy it and you won’t be disappointed.

Very impressed with this auger
I am very impressed with this ice auger. The first weekend after it arrived I had it out on the ice and drilled about 5 holes with it. It dug right through without a hitch, and I was impressed with how little effort it took. 2 of the other guys who were with me actually stopped using their own augers and started borrowing mine, and this became the group favorite. All together it drilled more than a dozen holes through foot and a half ice without any issues. My one complaint is that the item was damaged on arrival. It was a return, which I knew, but the damage was pretty substantial. The auger had a very noticeable bend to it on the shaft, so it drills at an angle. It's a minor complaint, though, because it still drills straight down without any issues, it just makes a hole that is a bit bigger around than normal. I was actually MORE impressed with this due to the damage, since it worked so well despite the obvious problem.Overall I highly recommend this product, new or used.
