The Go-Getter Girl's Guide: Get What You Want in Work and Life (and Look Great While You're at It)

The book lists some superficial advice without any substance. Some are common sense, like don't wear sheer black pantyhose that are too revealing. Some are superficial without addressing the real question. In one chapter, the author suggests that working hard and long hours is a must for career success in one chapter, and then in another chapter, she noted that spending time outside work on hobbies and exercise is key to long term success. Everybody would agree that both points are true, but the burning question for most women is how to balance them. The author recognized that, as she asked in the Introduction "should I leave work early for a yoga class?", but she never bothered to try to answer this question.The book is full of examples of successful women, but didn't go deeper to their struggle and self improvement in both career and life. It's more like a collection of motivational but empty quotes and stories, like "I worked weekend and nights so I am successful now!". I wish the secret to success is that simple.Don't read this book if you are looking for self improvement beyond common sense knowledge.

I bought this book as I was preparing to start a new job and I'm so glad that I did! All of the advice Debra Shigley offers is down to earth and practical enough to remember and use every day. "Twenty-One Pieces of Office Attire Every GGG Needs in Her Closet" - my new job was a promotion and the thing that worried me most about it was how I should dress. This was my shopping list, and it helped me to buy everything I needed for my new position. With the right clothes I can focus on my work without giving a second thought to how pulled together I look. Every other topic she coves comes into play in an office, but sometimes it is the strong foundation that prepares you to achieve your goals.

Great read! The only suggestion would be less examples of people throughout the book and more practical knowledge. This book was motivating and has given me a few more tools in my arsenal

I really did not think that this book would "ignite a light in me" like another reader said. However, it definitely has. I have recommended this book to every woman I know! It definitely is a must buy and you will not regret spending a dollar on it. There is a lot of advice that will be useful to you regardless of where you are in your career. They should give this book to every woman who enters university, as the earlier you read it, the more your career will benefit from it.

This is a good "put on your big girl panties!" kind of book. There was a lot of good advice and I did learn new ideas. I'm on the job hunt right now so I plan on implementing a lot of what I learned ;-)

This book has a lot of good information and it's easy to digest. Not just about work and not just about how to look good, it's got everything.
