Spanish Stories / Cuentos Españoles (A Dual-Language Book) (English and Spanish Edition)

Thank you for providing this wonderful book. I belong to a group which explores Spanish literary works as a means of immersement into the language, so each of us is acquiring better speaking and understanding of the language.

I am still reading this book, but so far, I am finding it very interesting. A friend of mine from South America, who is reading it with me, feels that it may not be the ideal way to improve fluency in modern Spanish, but I think it is very motivating because of the high caliber of the literature it contains. In addition to the dual-language stories, the book includes a useful preface, notes, and study guide questions.

I love the idea of this book -- with a spanish page and its adjacent corresponding english page. It's a great way to learn more spanish outside of just verbal skill-building. I also like the fact that the book includes some older, more formally-written stories (especially the hilarious one about the guy who marries the "problem" girl and how he tames her the first evening together). The format of the book is good -- not too large or small; stays open easily. I would prefer the type face to be a little more streamlined/updated, but that's a minor nit at best.

While taking a class to learn the language, Spanish Stories takes you into the culture through the use of short stories. It is an easy read and written in both English and Spanish. I do recommend this text book to anyone interested in Spanish or literature.

I can't speak Spanish. I can't read Spanish. But I'm getting better every day. This book is a much more entertaining and natural way to learn than simply reading a Spanish dictionary. You follow a story in English on one side of the page, and then read it again in Spanish on the other side. Or you can try first reading it in Spanish, and then double checking in English. I do wonder how dated some of the slang might be, because this book is a few years old. But its still a great way to learn!!!

I bought this book with the goal of improving my Spanish. I am a firm believer that forcing yourself to read text in the foreign language that you are learning will help improve your command of that language.This book is definitely not for beginners. It is for advanced Spanish students with interest in the literary works. It is a nice introduction to the works of some of the best Spanish writers. I'm almost half way through the book and the book is arranged in chronological order of the writers from the 1300's to the 1900's. Reading the first half, I admit that I was not very comfortable with the style of the writings as I had to refer to the translation far too often. But I still think it is good practice and I'm looking forward to finishing this book.

I bought this book to help my Spanish language fluency. I'm a teacher and I know that the best method for language proficiency is a combination of reading and writing. The book is made up of multiple short stories that reminds me of Aesop's fables. The language used is mostly common but contains words that I'm not familiar with. I think this is a good thing. Just like in the English language, there is more than one word that means the same thing. I enjoy building my vocabulary and I welcome the challenge. Just what I was looking for.

Very good book for expanding your vocabulary and improving your grammar

Recommended for intermediate Spanish learners. Contains vocabulary and additional notes for bringing about clearer understanding of the spanish text.

"Spanish Stories: A Dual-Language Book" edited by Angel Flores is an excellent introduction to the history of Spanish Stories. The book covers Spanish stories from medieval times to the present. It was a treat to read both the Spanish and the English texts. One can move from the English text to the Spanish text easily and improve one's Spanish immensely using this book. The selections from the history of Spanish literature are all fascinating. There are stories by Cervantes, Quiroga, and Borges in here. They along with all the other stories are a delight and a joy to read. It is wonderful to learn the works of Spanish authors that I did not know before.

I am finding these stories very interesting, the Spanish is quite difficult for me to read, but it is very good practise.
