Good book aimed at beginners of astronomy, but needs a bit more info and guides.
This is a nice book that is helpful for those just getting into astronomy with a a telescope. The book is a list of 50 top celestial bodies and objects to view with a telescope and the information in this book does a good job of introducing those objects. With details of visibility, descriptions, directions to find them, significance, origin, and some pop trivia, it's a concise and not too wordy summary to get one interested without being overwhelmed. If your interested is piqued for more in-depth information and knowledge, you can always do additional research on your own at your local library or online. While being aimed at those new to the world of astronomy and telescope viewing, this book falls short in the area of directions and guiding readers in finding the celestial objects. The book uses constellations as the point of reference in it's directions. A chapter introducing all the constellations referenced in the directions with additional pictures and diagrams of the constellations would be extremely beneficial to the reader. Coordinates and more detailed directions would be helpful as well in assisting or training the new astronomer. The book includes some stunning color pictures and I feel it would definitely benefit from more pictures of the celestial bodies being included in correspondence with the related chapter. Don't get me wrong, this is a good introductory book and it gets a solid 4 stars from me, but with additional diagrams, pictures, and with more fleshed out instructions I would give this book 5 stars(Sol, Betelgeuse, Rigel, Sirius, Arcturus).I received a copy of this Astronomy with a Home Telescope book for an honest and unbiased review.

astronomy
I'm not super impressed with this book. I think it means well but it lacks so much. It does cover lots of different things you find it the night sky and covers some neat back ground stories. I just dont see how it is actually helping you identify half of these "50 celestial bodies" you would def have to have prior knowledge of constellations and the placement of other stars and planets in the sky before this book could actually help you find the 50 celestial bodies. I mean it's a good read but it seriously lacks actual useful information on how to. A neat to know book but so not a how to book.I recieved this book at a discount to read and review.

Love the popular cultural references section for each object.
This is a great way to go about getting to know what's out there in the sky. It is an easy and entertaining read, even without a telescope! In about 2 or 3 pages, it describes each object, how far away it is, what you should know, how it got its name and my favorite - pop culture references, like TV or sci-fi novels that include the star or galaxy, historical references and even music named after a star. You are bound to learn something new reading this book.

Short, Straight-Forward Sections - Excellent for Finding Celestial Bodies with a Telescope
Since a young girl, I've been fascinated by the stars and the night sky. With that said, I still consider myself to be a beginner. Only recently have I begun actually looking more closely at the stars (thanks to my recently delivered telescope) and reading more about them. Prior to reading this book, I couldn't point out more than three celestial bodies, unless you were asking about the moon. This book has provided me with a bit more information so that now, I can locate several celestial bodies and view them with my telescope. The reason I enjoyed this book so much is not only because it deals with subject matter that I am passionate about, but also because it is written in a manner that can be understood by laymen. It's simple and to the point, and the information is organized so that what you seek is easy to find. There are fifty celestial bodies that are covered in the book, each with it's own section. While these sections are short, you do get a decent amount of information in each, including information on visibility, when the body is best viewed, how far away the body is from earth, how to find the object with a telescope, etc. The directions for finding objects with a telescope was the most important information, in my opinion, along with the tidbits about the origin of these celestial bodies. If you're a "beginner astronomer," I would highly recommend this book.* Product provided for review purposes without cost. All opinions are my own.

Great easy read, full of knowledge
I got this book to go along with my brand new Meade telescope, and boy was I impressed! I decided to read the book first rather than just bounce back and fourth! It is very interesting and I learned a few new things I've always loved science it just fascinates me. The book is broken up into small sections of varies planets, comets, nebulars, stars, and galaxies. In each of these following chapters you will find a few pages telling you the viability, distance from earth, and other tid bits of information, but most importantly the direction it's in helping you find it with your telescope. It's really pretty neat and super helpful. The other thing that I myself found interesting was the origin story, I loved all that new information I didn't know. I received this book for reviewing purposes and this is my honest unbiased opinion.

Good Reference Book
I would recommend this book to anyone who is just getting started with home astronomy. It is interesting to read the historic information that the author includes along with the location in the sky relative to the different constellations. My grandchildren are very interested in star gazing at night and this book has given me a guide to point out specific celestial bodies. The advice to wait 20 minutes after going outside to try locating the object was well taken. It definitely takes your eyes that long to adjust to the decreased light. I was glad that the writer did not assume that everyone would already know this! This book was provided to me in return for my unbiased review and I have found it useful in my efforts to educate my grandchildren on objects in the night sky!
