MephistoMen's Match Walking Shoe

Do not be fooled by the high price. Mephisto men's walking shoes will outlast you. They are the most comforable shoes I have worn. I walk regularly for exercise and am now in my 70's. These shoes have great cushioning. They are attractive enough to wear almost anywhere. The sizing has worked well, even for my short, wide feet.

These are the very best walking shoes I have ever owned. They are heavier than the cloth mesh waking shoes available, but a little more weight is not an issue for walking. They are very supportive and comfortable. My feet, ankles and legs do not hurt when I wear these shoes. Thay intentionally fit looser than most shoes, which I discovered was an advantage in comfort and heat reduction. I bought a different style Memphisto shoe in the mid 80's, have had them refurbished twice and they are still comfortable and fit well. All of the other walking/running shoes I have purchased since I bought my first pair of Memphisto's have on average lasted about 6 months. Lot of difference in 39 years and six months. I believe the Match shoes will be just as serviceable. These are simply a great shoe for walking or standing all day. Well worth carrying a little extra weight to achieve the comfort and serviceability of these shoes. I strongly recommend you try them for awhile so you can smile like I smile. This is not a commercial. I am simply tired of expensive mesh shoes that do not hold up and offer nowhere near the comfort. If you are a runner, these shoes are not for you, unless you are simply looking for a comfortable day to day shoe for work of just ambling around. One last thing. I wear a size 11 shoe, but ordered these in a 10.5 and they are perfect. They also come in wide sizes, but are already a little wide. Once you lock onto "your size" you'll be hooked.

I’ve worn Mephisto shoes for about 30 years. I have had several pair of this particular design over the years. I also own a few pair of their boots (which are extremely long lasting and hands-down the most comfortable things I’ve ever put on my feet).My first few pair of this shoe were made in France. They were perfect. From day one they fit perfectly. They performed flawlessly for years and I never gave a second thought to the cost. I knew they would last long time and be comfortable the entire time, so it felt like a fair deal.Then a few years ago I bought a pair online because I couldn’t find my size in a local store. I was surprised to receive a pair of shoes that were made in Portugal. Surprised and skeptical…and as it turned out, appropriately so. That pair didn’t last like my previous ones had. And they weren’t like walking on a cloud. Not even close. So, after some time I talked myself into believing they were knock-offs (I didn’t buy that pair on Amazon. They were from an online auction site). Maybe they were, maybe not, but they were certainly different from all other Mephisto shoes I’d ever had.Now this pair. First, I will say this- the darker brown color is SO MUCH NICER LOOKING than the standard tan color. Thank you, Mephisto for finally making this shoe in the darker brown!These are comfortable shoes. They fit well; they don’t cause blisters, etc. But, there’s something that’s different about these shoes from the pair that were made in France. They still lack the ‘walking on a cloud’ level of comfort.Someone else mentioned the weight of these shoes. I agree- they are much lighter than the genuine, French-made shoes. Idk if that’s a result of different materials or a different amount of certain materials or what, but I do know this is the last pair of Mephisto shoes I’ll be buying at this price point.I have to assume the cost of producing these shoes has decreased significantly since they’re no longer made in France. The labor cost alone is probably less than half what it was in the past. And if the quality and/or quantity of materials is lower then so too are the associated costs. For those reasons the cost of these shoes should be lower.It’s too bad. I feel like I’m losing a friend by deciding to not buy Mephisto shoes anymore. But it just feels like I’m being overcharged.MOVE MANUFACTURING BACK TO FRANCE!!

Sizing is kind of weird as Mephisto's EU size conversion to US sizes is a whole size off by many other brands. Going by EU sizing, the length is about right bordering on slightly smaller than the label. Width wise is great, except of the toe box. The toe box is extremely narrow and your small toe will be cramped against the side. If you size up half EU size, it think it might work but you might experience heel slippage depending on your foot shape. Sizing up EU size by half size is sizing down half size in typical US sizes (since Mephisto's conversion is different). I wonder if the people saying it ran large might be going off their typical US size.Comfort: These are extremely comfortable shoes if it fits you. Only potential problem would be overheating as it is made of thick, full grain leather. No break in time needed.Quality: It is made of quality material and you can easily tell. They look much better in person than in pictures in my opinion.Price: It is extremely expensive for a pair of "sneakers" but they can be resoled and refreshed by Mephisto. From what I have heard about this process, it will come back looking pretty much new, espeically since the top is made of full grain leather. If you break down the down over time, it might actaully become cheaper than buying multiple cheaper shoes over the years. So if you are the type of person that likes to wear the same shoes and would just buy the same model again when the time comes, this might be for you (as long as it fits your feet).
