Get Your Crochet On! Fly Tops & Funky Flavas

I love this book. I swear the black crochet community has the best books out, I wish I could find more!! I wish Ms Ibomu would put out books, because this one really is so haute-haute-hot that I love it!

Love this series of books, but the designs could be a bit better. I bought it for the cover pattern, so mission accomplished!

I'm a beginning crocheter. The first half of the book is wonderful for beginners. Very thorough review, good stitch charts, and great pattern deciphering info. I also really appreciated the diversity of the models and showcasing of these designs on people of color. This may seem trivial to some, but it was great to see how garments made from different colors/tones of yarn and thread look on darker skin tones. There was also a mix of male and female models. I think the designs themselves are a bit of a mixed bag. There are some cute, easy projects like the shoe laces, tie, the earrings, handwarmers etc. However, I think Ms. Ibomu missed the opportunity to create a very timeless and wonderful crochet reference by making things (including the project titles) too trendy. They read very dated now ("Mad skillz" is the rating system for an advanced pattern). Also, some of the projects and project styling were odd (a crocheted gold "rope" chain, and a crocheted chain belt???). Again, too dated at this point even though I get the homage to old school hip hop. The other patterns are heavily warm weather ( a lot of halter and bare back styles). Some are very adorable, so if there's a gap in your library for warm weather crochet patterns you will probably enjoy those quite a bit.I don't regret buying this book at all! I really enjoyed the beautiful people of color showcased here (including Ms. Ibomu- gorgeous lady!) and many of the projects will be quick and fun for a beginner. She does a great a job helping you decipher crochet patterns. The book is also reasonably priced for the great information, even if you don't make most of the patterns. I just hope Ms. Ibomu's next book can capture more fashionable crochet that is ethnocentric without being cliche.

Granddaughters wanted some crocheted tops. Hard to find books with patterns. This book had a few I could use, not as many in the style the girls wanted... but it’s a start

I thought the patterns in this book were different from most books...I mean, how many crochet books have a chain link belt and funky shoe laces in the their collections??What I thought was best about this book was the detailed diagrams on crocheting in rows, creating stitches, working in rounds, etc. There are pictures and/or photos for every detail and also photos in most of the patterns if there is a difficult part in the pattern.This is a treasure for beginning crocheters...to be able to see where the hook should actually enter the stitch. Nicely done.

Fast delivery and awesome book

I love this book! It started out as me borrowing it from the library and I thought, "I gotta have this book." So I bought it and it's so worth having in your crochet book library. This book is filled with detailed instructions and some really great projects! One thing that I really love about this book is the instructions on how to add elastic to your project by needlepoint and not a sewing machine; something I find very helpful.

Someone in my crochet group raved about this book and I decided to buy it. I am not too happy with this purchase. There were only 3 patterns I was interested in making and I had to revamp the patterns for two. One I had to completely do my own thing because I got stuck with the instructions. Thankfully I am a seasoned crocheter and was able to get through it. More testing should have gone into the patterns before publishing.

I love this book it is my second purchase from this talented artist. I have been doing crochet for many years now and had no trouble understanding any of the patterns. Even new crafters will be able to manage the patterns in this book as each stitch is described with clear pictures to refer to as well. Plenty of hip ideas for quick crochets and all the projects make really fun gifts too.

i have the same book about hats which I love and I really was disappointed with the designs in this one. I was expecting better.
