Bernat Big Ball Chunky Solid Yarn, 14 oz, Gauge 6 Super Bulky, 100% Acrylic, Black

Wasn’t the same gauge as what I had on hand and the color was a little different even though they said they were the same color. Since I was making the blanket for my husband he was ok with the different colors.

Okay the pictures of these skeins of yarn does not do them justice. They are HUGE—like the size of a pillow and twice as thick. Definitely not for traveling with! Good value for the money though. However, the yarn itself feels a bit lower quality than other Bernat yarns. Not quite as soft—like craft-quality yarn. But if that doesn’t bother you, and you don’t knit on your commute, then this would be great for you.

I've been using a different kind of yarn for years, it's soft and a skein is 185 yds. It also costs between $6.00 and $9.00 a skein. I crochet granny square afghans roughly 5' x 5' using an "I" crochet hook and it takes around 6 skeins using that other yarn. This afghan only takes 2 skeins of the "big ball" yarn and I'm using a "J" hook. It's soft, it doesn't fray, it's the same size as the other, and the price can't be beat. I'll be saving so much money, I'll be able to afford making considerably more afghans for the elderly men and women in my community. I'm totally excited.

I make and donate scarves and hats. I really liked this yarn. It's fluffy and consistent. Sometimes you get skimpy spots and you have to cut and knot to continue. Not with this yarn. I also love me that it doesn't split while you are crocheting. I will be buying more.

This is the only brand I use it is as big as they say so what you see is what you get! Good prices for good quality

I am making a sheep blanket for my daughter. I will embroider the heads in black. I was able to get the 14 oz in the Bernat softee chunky at a good price, and because of the thickness the blanket worked up quicker.
