Only high-quality natural materials are used in the careful crafting of the Yemeni shoes; each section is made from a different natural leather. The upper, insole and the inner lining are made from cowhide, and the outsole is made from tanned buffalo. Throughout the process, beeswax-coated twine is used as thread for stitching. After each natural material is hand-selected, it is time for the craftsmen to begin their process. First, the leather is carefully cut to the desired size for each section. Once this task is complete, the craftsmen prepare for stitching. The heel-less shoe must first be stitched on the reverse side and then placed on a last – the craftsman’s tool for shaping and constructing the shoe. After the excess leather is trimmed, the shoe will not return to the last until it is complete. With the beeswax-coated twine attached to a large thick needle called a bodkin, the sides of the shoe are skillfully hand-stitched with the help of a piercing tool. After the sole and upper are stitched, it is finally time for the shoe to return to the last. Here, it will sit for one day and then the shoe is ready to wear. Once the process of the Yemeni shoe meets its completion, the result is a natural, healthy, and handmade product. The high quality materials combined with expert construction create breathability, which disperses sweat and inhibits foot odor. The naturally comfortable shoe also prevents other common foot issues such as blisters and corns, making this the perfect shoe for anyone seeking a more comfortable and healthy fit. Your feet will appreciate the attentive craftsmanship of our traditional Yemeni style shoe!
