A Splendid Collection of Mitten Patterns
This is a splendid collection of mittens, all knit in at least two colors and one pattern utilizing 13 colors. The patterns are knit utilizing various motifs and named for the landscape, legends and traditions that inspired the designs. Some patterns are based on traditional Swedish designs and others take their inspiration from the Sami people. The mittens are knit with two-ply wool yarn and utilize a size 1 or 2 U.S. size needle. This means that a very small needle is used to knit up these patterns which will probably result in a very dense finish and keep hands warm at low temperatures.I intend to knit at least three of the patterns and find that the instructions are clear, this book is a great resource, and one I will go to repeatedly.

A Book I Will use Often And Love!!
This beautiful collection brings me back to Norway, a country I was lucky enough to visit for a week two years ago. That became the start of an obsession with Nordic stranded knitting. A great selection of lovely designs, easy to follow directions, a template from which to design your own, and photographs and anecdotes about the inspiration for most of the patterns. Only wish the physical book was larger so that I didn't have to squint to see the charts. That, in my opinion, would be all that it would take for me to give the book a five star review. I look forward to seeing more of Solveig Larsson's books in English editions!

Beautiful Mittens with No Gussets
I just recently got my copy and I love it! I've been on a mitten kick recently and am really happy with the designs and stories in this book. I would not however recommend this to someone that has never knitted a mitten or pair of gloves before, The charts in the book are made to fit the basic mitten pattern in the book. This basic pattern does include gussets for the thumbs, just slap some waste yarn on the stitches and keep going. It is an interesting design technique that I'm looking forward to trying.

Smashing Design, Gorgeous Finished Product
I've been knitting Scandanavian-style mittens for sixty years. These designs are absolutely beautiful, though not for the beginner in two-strand knitting. Directions allow for the knitter's own decisions and yarn or color choices. Unique, evoking the North, craft history included. The stories of destitute children in work houses knitting mittens to sell is heart breaking - and the distinctive designs charming. Buy colorful quality yarn and get going!

Worth getting. I want every pair.
I'm going to have to get a friend to teach me how to begin the first set of mittens. The directions are scant. I do think they can be figured out, though, and the mittens are beautiful.
