Rachel Smiles: The Spiritual Legacy of Columbine Martyr Rachel Scott

A Lifetime In 17 Years
It's eleven years after Columbine, and we're still talking about Rachel Scott.Through "Rachel's Challenge", the school non-violence program started by her father Darrell and wife Sandy, millions of lives have been changed for the better. It's now the number one school program in the United States, and perhaps soon the world. In this book, Rachel's father Darrell digs deep not only showing the reader these outward changes, but baring the souls of those affected. This is a book that is not only hard to put down, but impossible to forget. Here, everyday people tell the impact Rachel's story has had on their lives, as well as those such as David Berkowitz, known as "Son of Sam". And these aren't temporary "changes", but life altering experiences for the better. This is a story you'll want to read, re-read, and share with your friends. It makes a great uplifting gift for anyone as well.

Good Followup
After reading Rachel's Tears (and totally loving it) I decided to pick up this one but I was a bit disappointed though. I enjoyed reading the many stories of people who were inspired by Rachel but I felt as there was a lack of profoundness compared to Rachel's Tears. Don't get me wrong, this was a very good book to read but I felt as many of the stories and topics presented did not go in-depth, which made it hard to relate to them at times. I also disagree with the statement that Eric and Dylan specifically targeted certain victims as it said in the book, because most of the evidence points against it. While they might have said derogatory things to/about her because of her faith, I don't think she was killed because of it.And while I don't necessarily agree with some of the religious teachings in the book, it was a good "ending" to the series about Rachel Scott. In this one you get to see that every day people just like us can start a chain reaction just like Rachel hoped to start. You also get to see that they are no different from you and you can start one of your own too! Despite what I pointed out in the paragraph above, it was a good book to close up the message Rachel wished to put out in the world, and which she ultimately did. I do however suggest reading "Rachel's Tears" and "Chain Reaction" before picking up this one as this is not Rachel's story, but many stories which she has inspired.
