Belly Laughs (10th anniversary edition): The Naked Truth about Pregnancy and Childbirth

Good fun but not for the faint-hearted!
I read this book after my pregnancy. I had fun going through Jenny's anecdotes and I really loved how the book is organized : so many more serious pregnancy books are typically of the "month by month" sort. Here, each chapter covers one aspect of pregnancy - mostly ailments! (and each has a hilarious title with a pun) eg one on morning sickness, one on bloating, another yet on baby kicks, etc. which gives a refreshing overview of what is in store for you.It is, indeed, pretty blunt and direct but the humor makes it go down more easily! and I could totaly relate to a lot of the tpics covered and her perception. However, it is enough to scare a sensitive future mother, and I want to point out to all pregnant women who read it : don't worry, things are not always as bad as that, there is little chance you will endure all or even most of the issues described here, for a lot of women it's down to a few specific problems - some of us don't gain much weight, others are not bloated etc. `When I read through the book I kept thinking, "this is the worst pregnancy I ever heard of!", not to mention the hellish delivery. Chances are you will have an easier time statistically speaking!A criticism I have is I thought the book was overpriced for its length; I read "Baby laughs" too and the same applies - if sold together they would be worth 10 dollars, but 10 dollars each is a little over the top.

Funny
Was given as a gift when I was pregnant. So now I like to give it as part of a gift for friends or family when they get pregnant.

Such a fun gift to give!
I was gifted this book when I was pregnant, and I've been gifting it ever since. Not only is it funny, there are things you will learn from this book that all the other books don't mention. And one of the things was really important for me. I know not everyone has the same taste in books, and what they consider funny, but I thought it was great and a fun read.

Best Pregnancy Book!
I absolutely loved how she just said everything that every single pregnant woman is thinking. She was not afraid to tell the truths about pregnancy and it honestly was such a relief to hear all the things I’m going through in another persons perspective. It made all of these annoying horrific situations bearable because she talked about it in a funny way. That is the best way to go through pregnancy is to have a sense of humor and positive outlook on the beautiful baby after it’s all over. I was able to download this through kindle for free since I signed up for amazons baby registry. I suggest anyone buying a pregnancy book to purchase this one!! It is seriously what you need if you want the honest truth about pregnancy! I am approaching my second trimester and I am so excited for what’s to come. Labor may not be easy but I don’t think anyone has had it easy. Just go with the flow and be grateful for your little bundle of joy to come!

Funny, bur don't buy it if you're actually looking for help
I got this when I was pregnant for my first baby 15 years ago and remeber laughing so hard I cried. Naturally, it was the perfect gift for a first-time mommy friend who had a similarly sick sense of humor. It's a nice change from the drama of the technical pregancy books.

Love it!
This was my favorite pregnancy book (felt more like your best friend giving over the top funny TMI details and less like a biology textbook like others I was given). Bought this copy for my cousin and she loves it too!

Whinny, exaggerated, NOT funny... and simply intolerable!
When I became pregnant, I bought this book based on the high overall rating. I was looking forward to reading something light and humorous - this book is anything BUT that! (I wish I had read some of the more realistic reviews). This book is TRASH! Each chapter focuses on a specific pregnancy symptom and exaggerates every aspect of each symptom, until it is so negative and whinny that its totally depressing - that's the last thing a pregnant woman needs to hear! There is no humor any where; there is no mention of the wonderful side and joys of pregnancy; and no encouragement is offered to women facing these symptoms. The only message in this book is "Welcome to the ride through hell. Hang in there, it totally stinks." That's NOT what pregnancy is all about, even with its ups and downs. Through out the book, Jenny whines about how her body is changing and how difficult it is to absorb this shock! Well, pregnancy is about changes, lady, but its also in the attitude you have! Obviously if you're too concerned about your body to breast feed your baby, you will suffer the consequences. And if you find it so hard to give up G-strings for a few months, again, you will suffer. Her writing reflects her thinking - utterly selfish and very superficial! I even wonder if she's fit to be a mother - if this was her attitude during pregnancy, I cant imagine how much she must be whining after the baby was born! I am not surprised, all this coming from a Playboy model who is only interested in herself and will do whatever to make money. But what is really sad is how many people praise this book - what has happened to people's sense of humor and appreciation for quality writing?Bottom line - TOTAL GARBAGE! There are much better books out there on pregnancy, both informative and enjoyable.

Read something actually useful. This is NOT.
I was very impressed by the reviews and the fact it's a best seller in US. It was my first book after finding out that I was pregnant. 10th edition?! How impressive is that?! What a waste of my precious gestational days. Celebrity's diary. With all exaggeration, futilities and attacks of diva. She spend paragraphs after paragraphs giving details about how nasty she was with her husband, how misinformed were her questions to her doctor and how blow dries were crucial during her pregnancy - even when she found out she was in labour. Yes! She drove while in labour to have her hair done! I detested this book. It's not informative at all - unless you are interested to know that she ate a tray of brownies chocolate almost every day, put over 30 kg - and guaranteed it's absolutely normal amongst most women - and how upset she was when people recognised her on the street and she didn't look her best (really?!). I wish I could have my money back. I don't recommend even as a joke. A really bad joke. By the way, I didn't laughed once. Not even close.

Bought this as it is highly rated on the internet ...
Bought this as it is highly rated on the internet. Have mixed fillings about it.It is one woman's experience of pregnancy and child birth. She gives positive vibes in terms of self perception and acceptance of your changing body. Read it as any other pregnancy/childbirth story you can find. But do not treat it as a some sort of standard.
