Simple, old fashioned. Works great!
Was easy to install since it replaced our old one. The only disadvantage is that the temperature is in Fahrenheit Degrees instead of °C, which I assumed, since I ordered from Canada.

This is an off white unit. The picture is misleading. You do not get a dark thermostat.
I replaced an original very old similar thermostat with a nice programmable thermostat a few years ago. I thought it would be a good money saver for the thermostat to not heat the house when I'm not home. Big mistake. It was useless to program it to bring heat or cool on at certain times due to my erratic work schedule. Just programming it was a PITA, but the worst was that it would be thirty degrees outside and my heater suddenly wouldn't come on. The programmable unit required batteries and they seemed to die at the most inopportune time. Enough power left for the thermostats LCD screen to work, but it wouldn't kick on the heater. It took me three days to figure out what was wrong the first time this happened. Run out and buy batteries.I'm retired now and wanted to go back to the old style. I'm home 99% of the time, like to keep the house a constant temperature and have no need or desire for a programmable thermostat. Even though it's expensive I selected this one. Installation was a snap. Flipped a couple of switches inside the unit based on the type of heating system I had and connect all the wires. All my wires were color coded and matched what this thermostat needed. My wires are blue, yellow, green and red. I used terminals marked B, Y, G and R. R was already jumped to Rc. My setup required jumping R and Rc terminals inside the unit, but the jumper was already installed for me. (My old programmable needed a jumper as well, but there wasn't one and nothing about it in the instructions. I had to figure that out for myself and jump a couple of terminals.) Installation was so easy here that I actually only looked at the instructions in order to know what position those switches needed to be in. After everything was put together I cranked the heat and it immediately came on. Flipped it over to cool and cranked it down and the air conditioner came on immediately. With the old programmable thermostat there was always a delay for both heating and cooling units to come on even if I changed the temperature manually. This thermostat seems more sensitive than the programmable one. It seems to cycle the heat on and off more where the one it replaced I would notice serious temperature changes in the home prior to it coming on or going off. The programmable one I had set up for a half a degree variance. It was clearly more than that. More like five degrees - sounds like one CPH. The heater would run and then shut off. I get cold before the heat came back on. Too hot. It shuts off. I get cold before it starts to heat again. On and on.Now this guy has a CPH of nine for an electric heater. Much tighter control on temperature. Now I don't get cold before the heater comes back on. This unit is much better at maintaining consistent temperature in the house. Basically, it's running more often than the old one, but not as long for each time it comes on. As it should be.Your only issue for installations is knowing whether or not you have a one or two transformer heating system. (I'm talking electric heaters.) Leave that jumper in place for a one transformer system and remove it for a two transformer system. I have a one transformer system so I left the jumper in place. No mercury here and no batteries. Thank you. I found the instructions very clear on how to set the internal switches and whether or not I needed the jumper based on what type of system I had.Sure, I could have ordered a different thermostat for less money, but I've learned the hard way that often a cheap price means a cheap product and may end up costing you more in the long run. I didn't want to have to struggle with installing the thermostat or fight with it after installation. So yeah, I feel it's expensive, but a little research showed it to be about the same price everywhere. The price on Amazon actually went up after I made my purchase. Then again, this thing is designed to accommodate a lot of different types of heating systems. Gas, steam, electric, heat pump or oil. I guess that doesn't come cheap. With this unit, install was a breeze and it works like a charm. I was a little dismayed when the thermostat arrived and it was white thinking I had ordered a darker colored unit. The technical details say "off white". The image used is misleading and shows a darker thermostat which is not what you get. We are all getting off white. I was disappointed at first, but a little research on this model, T87N1000, showed that I got what I ordered. Seller does need to replace the image though in order to reduce complaints about the wrong product being shipped. I installed this guy first try with no mistakes and it works perfectly.Update: It's only been a week, but I love this thing! My home definitely maintains a more constant temperature. I never have to manually adjust the thermostat because I'm too hot or too cold like I was always doing with the old programmable thermostat. My son agrees with my assessment. It runs more often than my old thermostat allowed, but does a much better job of maintaining the temperature in my drafty house. Once I got it set to where I liked it, I haven't touched this thing since. I'm so satisfied that I forgive the seller for the misleading picture showing a darker colored product. It's been nearly a month now and I've yet to touch this thermostat since installing it. You've heard of plug and play? Well, this is it.This is one of those items where the price tends to fluctuate. The price went up after I purchased it making me feel good. As of this writing, the price is now less than I paid. So, if you're interested in this thermostat and don't need it right away, I suggest sticking it in your wish list and monitoring the price and strike when it's low.

Great upgrade from digital
I bought this thermostat to replace my old digital one that quit working reliably due to the display malfunctioning. I recommend this one precisely because it is not digital so there is one less thing to go wrong with it. Also, there's no need to replace batteries every so often. It was very easy to install. It took no more than 5 minutes. The jumpers were pre-configured to my heating/cooling situation, so that was easy to deal with as well. I've used it now for a month and would recommend to anyone looking to "upgrade" from digital.

Well made and Easy to Read
This was not compatible with our furnace. By the time this was discovered, the 30-day return period had expired, so we have a $40 thermostat that we can't use! We did replace our furnace; however, the new furnace had to have a programmable thermostat. The company was able to provide one with a large display window that I could read as I have AMD. Very disappointed.
