The saga continues as our OSS gang works to extract a German scientist key to the Nazi jet-plane development program. Donovan fears the Nazis getting jets operational would shut Allied bombing missions down cold and turn the war’s tide.Dick Canidy’s buddy, the half-German spy Eric von Fulmar, is to be inserted into Germany, where he went to college and can pass as German, to extract Friedrich Dyer and his daughter Gisella - whom von Fulmar once dated. She’s now reluctantly the girlfriend of a nasty SS officer whom she must keep happy to keep herself and her father out of a concentration camp. The Germans turned by the OSS in the previous book in North Africa - von Huerten-Mitnitz the diplomat and Muller the cop - are now back in Berlin and central to the plot. Both acquire SS status, giving them great freedom of movement in Germany. A Hungarian countess becomes another key figure. Griffin’s fine detail on life in Germany and Hungary - like what Muller drives and what parking stickers it bears - is just wonderful.Ed Bitter, who after being wounded with the Flying Tigers fears he’ll never fly again, suddenly gets orders for England and will see his OSS buddies again. But he’s caught in the middle: the Navy wants to use him against them to jockey for control of the secret drone bomber program. We meet one of the bomber pilots: Joseph P. Kennedy Jr.Bitter, sent on what’s meant to be an observational mission on a B-17 bombing Germany, suddenly finds himself the only pilot aboard a damaged plane. He’s never flown a four-engine B-17 before. A great, harrowing action sequence ensues.Donovan starts thinking about sending Jim Whittaker, who had engaged in daring demolitions work in the Philippines as it fell to Japan, back into the beleaguered country. There’s been radio contact with a purportedly American guerrilla group composed of troops who had refused to surrender. Are they for real or is this a Japanese trap? Some dark questions loom. History, of course, informs us that Kennedy - the son Joe Kennedy Sr. was grooming for the presidency - dies on a flight. Will any of our characters die with him?And as various romances progress - when one character strays from the straight and narrow, will we see him killed off as a result?

Great writer; interesting book.
I have thoroughly enjoyed every book by H.E.B. Griffin that I have had the privilege to read. I must focus on hardbound books, as my eyesight is no longer what it used to be. That means that I must search for hardbound volumes, which are hard to find at reasonable prices.

W.E.B. Griffin Series (all)
I discovered W.E.B. Griffin in the eighties after a four year stint in the Middle East and eleven years Active Duty in the Army. I would find out when the next release of a Griffin book was due and as soon as I got off work, I would get to the bookstore, buy the book, and I would finish reading it before work the next day. That ment I would get little or no sleep, but it was worth it.I have now obtained Griffins books on Kindle so I don't have to store all the hardcover and paperbacks. You can read any one of Griffins books as a stand alone, but why would you? Each Griffin sries will give you day's and week's of pleasure, (over and over again for me).

I can't really say enough about W.E.B. Griffin. I first read his series "The Corps" while in college and about to enter the Marines myself. Ever since then I have been a fan. This series more about the Army Air Corps and Navy, but It makes them seem alright! Well worth the read.

The Soldier Spies, a good story
A good story through out, but you will be forced to understand and read German and Spanish and Portugese. A lot of time repeating protions from previous stories (books) that take up a lot of the book, maybe 20 percent.Having said that I enjoy following the charactors from each story as the series progresses and look forward to more.John R Jobin

Interesting
The book was interesting as to what some of the thing that went on in WWll. It was kind of drawn out and I didn't care for the ending, thought it could of went a little further in bring everyone home safe.

Great Service
Purchased for a friend who has been looking for these books for a number of years without success as she does not have access to the internet. She is thrilled with them and the service was exceptional arriving ahead of the due date and in very good condition for a used book.
