Worked nicely
This goat skin was used as the drum head for a home-made banjo. I soaked it in water, stretched it over a hoop and fastened it with two concentric metal rings. Didn't notice objectionable defects.

I was not expecting a perfect skin for the price
I was not expecting a perfect skin for the price, but the quality was very poor. There is a blemish very near the center of the skin that appears to be a scar or puckered wound. There were many hairs embedded in the skin as if it had not been scraped clean before drying. The package arrived on time and was safely packed, but I can only give it two stars because of the condition of the drum skin.

but I like it. It looks nice
This was my first goatskin banjo head, so I'm no expert, but I like it. It looks nice, it sounds nice, and it wasn't as hard as I thought to put on. Thanks Mr Goat!

Banjo head
Nice to have a clean and fairly uniformly opaque skin. Could they offer different thickness choices as well in future?

Good quality at a good price.
I replaced the torn head on a banjo uke and it worked just fine

Hair follicles showing.
This was my first skin banjo head to install. The banjo head went on ok but part of the skin still had hair follicles showing so I think it was just sloppy finishing by the manufacturer. ....

Good quality. Even thickness. Nice character.
Happy with it, all around. No tear through when mounting at all, no thin spots, nice even thickness (relatively speaking... it's still skin).Dropped a single star because it took forever & a day to actually ship, despite being "in stock". Once on it's way, it got here quickly.

Do things the old-time way. you won't regret it!
I've had quite a few of these back when golden gate were selling the calfskin ones. I play a lot of old time tunes and these skins provide a nice crisp old timey sound. Not too mellow, not too bright, just right. Ive never tried a goat skin one, but I think I will on my current old time banjo build project. Installatation isn't too difficult. Make sure you save your factory made head as you will need the hoop inside of it to mount your skin. Soak the skin in a tub of Luke warm water, fully submerged, for about 10 minutes.. Not too much longer than that.. You'll want to get it on fairly quickly as the skin is harder to work with as it dries.

... on my banjo for over 50 years was far better quality than this
Sorry but the head that was on my banjo for over 50 years was far better quality than this. Uneven thickness, can see thru skin in many spots, one section as large as my hand. the only reason for one star is the price.the next head that has to be replaced I will definitely pay an extra $20.00 and get a calf skin from stew mac. After installing head it looks just as ugly as I thought however I am changing my stars from one up too three because the sound is quite good ( for my taste)
