Don't work on your vehicle with out it

Upon its first day of arrival the book saved me over $1200 in dealer fees by assisting me in a belt change, spark plug change, fuel filter change, and brake change. Its got tons of information in it. I would consider myself pretty handy, Im not a certified mechanic or anything, but handy none-the-less, and this book gives me the extra confidence I need to get any job done on my mercedes. After all, to most of us, these german engineered vehicles can be a bit intimidating when it comes to working on them, but this book gets you over that pretty quick. Hell, its nice to have just for the bolt torque ratings alone. The book has all steps written out fairly clearly if your somewhat handy, and pictures to assist. The pictures arent exactly exhaustive, but they are enough to get the job done. There is always room for improvement, and this book certainly isnt for experienced mechanics, but for a DIYer looking to save a serious amount of money servicing their own benz, then Buy it, you wont be dissapointed.

Great book, and highly accurate, 99% accurate I would argue, for any early 2000 C-class Benz. This book saved me thousands of dollars in what would have been costly repairs. Many thanks to the guys at Haynes.This is edit as of September 30, 2022. Good book like mentioned but it is good for intermediate maintenance like brakes and spark plugs etc. if it comes to more extensive work like say head gasket or heater core, it is best to have already automotive experience and tools and time. Otherwise it is difficult

This manual is identical in content to the Chilton manual for the same car. Apparently one of them bought the other, which is too bad. I bought both, hoping to have two different takes on the same car, but unlike the old days when Chilton and Haynes were independent, all it got me was the same content in two different layouts.As with most of these manuals these days, it's a lot better than nothing, but still lacking in detail. The Haynes manuals' trademark "Based on a complete teardown and rebuild" is either a lie, or true for someone other than the people who actually wrote the manual, or true, but they didn't take very good notes when they did it.Would have been nice, for example, if this manual had pointed out prominently that to work on this car you need a set of inverse torx (by inverse, I mean that the bolt head looks like the business end of a giant torx screwdriver) sockets and, if they exist, wrenches. This car uses those fastener heads rather than standard hex heads. Worse than annoying.The only repair I've attempted so far was to remove the EGR valve, and I abandoned the effort partly for lack of a standard wrench to get on some of those fasteners. My socket didn't have clearance to fit.While I'm at it, avoid these cars if you want to work on it yourself. Besides using those reverse torx bolt heads, it seems like they deliberately put things around the EGR valve to prevent access, including a bracket for the transmission filler tube that didn't need to be where it was. ALSO, when you remove the air intake housing, the cap for that filler tube falls off. I think the manual may say to remove the cap before removing the housing, but they don't show you where it is: it's a small red cap, about a half inch diameter, hiding up against the firewall behind the air intake assembly.
