Brutal beauty
The power of these words to fell us, to fill us... I walked quietly with the poet through these troubles and troubling memories.

Essential reading. Poems that throb with vivid, sometimes excruciating, life and memory. And a searing reminder of one of the most horrific chapters of 20th century South Asian history, one that has been brushed under the floor - and not just the carpet - for far too long despite the official status of the Birangona women as war heroes.

Poem book about rape during 1971 Liberation War
I bought this poem book for a class, so I wouldn't have bought it otherwise. I personally wasn't expecting the subject matter, that is, rape in the historical context of wartime Bangladesh, nor was I expecting such explicit material. It's not what I'd call a casual read, as the material is quite sexual at times and has some imagery that I consider repulsive. However, it's not all that bad and can be quite compelling at times. It's a strange mix of poems, actually, with a lot of underlying messages.

Power to Poetry 's Realistic Depth
Fabulous. Strong diction. Gritty but not gross.Brilliant imagery. Powerful story. The poems resonant with me. I'm in awe of how they grasp the truth in our world. It's the side of us that poetry often excludes. Bravo to Crab Orchard and this talented, focused, and attentive poet whose words are so worldly many of us close our eyes and minds.

The product came in beautiful condition. The book
The product came in beautiful condition. The book, however, was a billion times more beautiful. Tarfia Faizullah is definitely a wonderful novelist. The real challenge is trying not to cry or tear up after reading each poem!

Stunning voice
I stumbled across Faizullah's work on one of those poem-a-day emails you can sign up to. her work stood out so I bought the collection. Oh wow. She's the kind of poet I long to discover. Her imagery is original and vivid - it stays in the mind. Her language is economical and rhythmic and sonorous. To my taste, perfect poetry.
