Together Again
At the end of Secret Invasion most people were dying to find out how "the reunion" between these two characters would play out. This series could have easily just felt like fan service or some cheap wasted off shoot title made for money and that alone.McCann instead gives us what we wanted. An entertaining story that could have been just as enjoyable without the Secret Invasion lead in.This is the point in comic reviews where the reviewer would go on for longer about the script and at the end say "oh, and how could you forget the art?!" I'm not going to wait. David Lopez's pencils work perfectly with the tension of the reunited former husband and wife. The art is all around spectacular.Best thing about this book is that you could read it without a whole lot of knowledge of the two main characters. you didn't have to even read SI, and they are clearly not just trying to get you to start reading the upcoming on-going. It's a great book to read, enjoy, and be done with H&M.But with McCann and Lopez re-teaming for the ongoing, why would you?

Back in Style both in Art and Dialogue
Mockingbird and Hawkeye as individual heroes and as a couple were arguably the mainstay of the West Coast Avengers. Not just in their relationship but because not having superpowers they were required to be and were exceptionally proficient in their abilities. One of the unforgettable historical events in the Marvelverse being Mockingbird dying in Hawkeye's arms. Now of course in this universe, death is considered either a bit of an inconvenience or an illusion and in Mockingbird's case as revealed through the Secret Invasion series, she had been captured by the Skrulls and substituted by one of their own agents, who was the one who died. This collection takes up where that left off and supplies its own tense narrative as two people try to sort out their own and their collective lives. The dynamic being Hawkeye trying to convince Mockingbird they can pick up where they left off and she trying to come to terms with who she is after being held captive by the skrulls; I did find the episodes of her memories or flashbacks to those times being illustrated differently and the cat and mouse game between her and the skrull assigned to impersonate Hawkeye and thus totally mess with her mind a fascinating read both in artwork and dialogue. The conversations between Hawkeye and Mockingbird range between the bitter, confessional, professional and down right witty which to my reading adds a layer of reality sometimes missing in other works; this is what folks do; relationships are complicated. There are foes to fight by the way, A.I.M is seemingly intending to kidnap scientists for its own dastardly ends. But this apparently straightforward plan is not all it seems, although to be truthful it's a bit of a vehicle for Hawkeye and Mockingbird to strut their stuff and kick (as the old term would have it) `seven sorts of brickdust' out of the opposition. I had no problem with this, the action is wonderfully staged with bodies flying every which way and the duo proving how supremely deadly and confident they are as a team.Poignant, funny, lots of action, good dialogue complimenting great art work. What more could you ask for? (By the way Mockingbird is pretty durn good at putting together her own version of SHIELD- WCA in a very short space of time with a bit off off-page help from Iron Fist- amazing work m'am)
