Welcome back Sir Dan!
Been waiting for years for an updated Medievil and thankfully it's here at last! The upgraded visuals speak for themselves and the game looks absolutely gorgeous. One thing I noticed quite early on us that this remake is more challenging than the original. I always found the first game a bit too easy ( playing it a lot helped I guess!). This game is tougher so you really need to conserve your health as much as possible and choose the right weapons for certain levels.I'm glad they have stayed mostly faithful to the original voice acting which was important, though I felt they shouldn't have changed the Hall of Heroes characters voices to new ones. There's been some harsh critical reviews from game reviewers who probably never played the original in 1998. These are mostly centered on the control system which is not well liked by some reviewers. I feel the control system was part of Medievils charm and tbh it's quite straightforward to master anyway. All in all I'm delighted to see this game back and just hope they remake Medievil 2 next.

Amazing remake hits in the nostalgia
This remaster was a no brainier for me. I use to play the demo of this on my ps1 many years ago.I eventually brought the game and struggled so much.I knew I wanted to go back and play this and boy was it great. The combat is very old school with running around slashing with no real lock on. The levels have some fun puzzles to them as well.It took about 8 hours to complete but there was extras I didn’t bother going for. There is some fun British humour to it that made me chuckle once or twice.Any old school ps1 fan should pick this game up.

A pleasant blast from the past
I feel bad for giving this game one star without having played much more than 10 seconds but that's as far as I got.First problem (not the developers fault): I bought this game mainly for my nine year old nephew because I had good memories of paying this when it first came out. Should have been fine age-wise. PEGI 7 according to the Amazon listing. It arrived with PEGI 12 on the box. One disappointed 9 year old.Next problem: 11GB of downloads and file copying before the game can even start and then yet more installation. Everything together took a fair bit of time but we got the in the end.Worst problem: several loading screens and intros later, game play starts. The PS4 got progressively louder as the disc started spinning faster and faster. My PS4 is normally incredibly quiet, even with discs. I quit the game but the disc kept going. Switching off the PS4 was the only way to stop it. I restarted several times but it made no difference. I checked system settings, PS updates etc. but it was all fine. Very disappointed. I work in tech support so I know what I'm doing and I can only surmise that the disc is defective or that the specifications are too high but it's supposed to be the PS4 version!!!On a positive note, I will say that the few playable seconds demonstrated fantastic graphics, exceptional attention to the details of the original game and an entertaining soundtrack.I hope that I'll be able to play the game at some point and will certainly come back with a fair review but until then I stand by my one star. Here's hoping Playstation will have a solution...EDIT: I see that Amazon has changed the listing to include the PEGI 12 rating. Very good! Also, regarding the erratic disc behaviour, I never got as far as PS support. I decided to try the disc again and amazingly it worked. Nothing changed that I know of but the disc was super silent like I've always known my PS4 to be and gameplay was seamless. Based on this, I'm awarding a total of four stars, one deducted for the initial problems. The game is fun and not majorly challenging if you use a bit of strategy. There's some logic involved which helps the game avoid the monotony of constant fighting which is such an off-putting characteristic of today's games. I'm really glad that a number of 90's games have been revived for current consoles. Games in the late 90's were so much more fun and interesting and it's really nice to be able to share some of my favourite childhood games with the next generation so I was pleasantly surprised to find out about this remake, even if my nephew is going to have to wait another three years to play it.

Just as infuriating as I remember
They have done a great job with this rerelease, the controls handle so much better than they did on PS1. The graphics are great quality but it doesn't lose that feeling of nostalgia. It is just as annoying, infuriating and heartbreaking as ever, just remember that the controllers are now wireless so will fly off when you throw them! All in all a great game and at great value... well worth it!

Thoroughly disappointed
First of all I'm sure the game is fantastic however the copy I received was not an English version so when I put it in it refused to play as it was in a foreign language, not what I expected from a product sold directly from amazon so I shall be returning

The best Remake of the PS4 era.
There are some very bizarre reviews of this game. However upon completing the remaster of Medievil I thought it would be a good idea to head back and give an honest opinion. Like many, this game holds huge nostalgia, and is another re release of classics from the Playstation days such as Spyro and Crash. Honestly? This Re master is by far the best and most faithful re master that I have played to date. The visuals are stunning, voice work faithful to the original, music and ambience great, a each level brought back so many amazing memories of my play through's from many years ago.Anyone who knows the original will be aware of the mechanics such as the Hall Of Heroes, Chalice, secret levels and puzzles. These things aren't particularly spelt out, but they never were to begin with. The combat is classic Medievil, and even the camera angles, all be it a little different to most modern games, remain easy to get used to very quickly. If you have fond memories of this game like I did, and actually remember what the game played and felt like, well then I do not think you will be disappointed in picking up this re make.
