Getting it apart isn’t very fun but easy enough with a good wrench set and pliers

Fits perfect on a 2004 Mercedes SLK 230… took only 5 minutes tops install!

2000 slk hood stays up now!
For anyone installing this on R170 Mercedes, it's very simple.Have someone else hold up the hood.The gas tube fits into a plastic sheath.-You must unclip the bottom part of the strut using a screw driver.-Have the helper lift the hood higher so you can pivot the assembly outward towards the front bumper.-there is a plastic button at the top of the assembly (nearest the hood) that gets pushed in so you can slide the old gas strut out of the housing.-unscrew the button piece from the old strut and reinstall it on the new one.-Installation is the reverse of removal.If you can change wiper blades, you can change this strut.
