For the money it is well worth it...no need for a 300 dollars !

This was for my nephew and aside from the underwater photo taking ability I found this product to be made very shoddy.

First off, i purchased this camera through a local store and not through Amazon. First, you need a micro SD card for the camera to save anything. You also cannot connect the camera to the computer to view files, you must remove the SD card and put that into your computer each time. Also, on the installation disk included, the camera model (DVR 781 HD) is not even included in the selections which tells you something. Tested the camera a few times, it worked fine but a decent camera today can shoot better. Also, navigating the menus inside the camera is a hassle and only through constant practice will you be able to understand that, within the menus, the shutter butter is enter and the OK button is back. A little confusing to the average Joe.ConclusionThe extra pieces (waterproof case, different mounts) can't make up for a camera that is now clearly outdated. Save yourself the money.

My feeling are decidedly mixed on this product: on the one hand, the image quality is totally inadequate for any commercial use or any use that requires resolution above 640x480. The HD resolution is merely a scaled-up version of the base resolution, so you're getting a bigger file size, but no additional resolution. At 1280 x 720, you can't even make out road signs 7-8 car lengths ahead of you. And, at that resolution, a 4 minute video clip is over 500MB. Image compression makes the photos look like you used a 90s-era "Pastel" filter from a photo-editing program. On the other hand, getting a camera, a waterproof case, a helmet mount, handlebar mount, and a stand mount for under $25 is ridiculously cheap. The mounting mechanism will work with existing tripods, but is not compatible with GoPro mounts, so you will need an adapter if you want to use the included mounts with a GoPro-style camera when you decide to upgrade. In the final analysis, its not very useful for much in the way of serious filming, but its an affordable, fun little entry-level camera that you can use to get the hang of action shots. Or give it to the kids so they won't touch your "good" camera.

Arrived exactly as described

The flimsy latch on camera's water-proof case was broken out of the box. I called Vivitar several times over last 8 months requesting a replacement. I finally gave up on ever getting a replacement case and decided to use it for my daughter's bike instead. So 8 months after receiving it, I got around to inserting a SD chip and turning it on. The camera worked about 1 day then died. Don't be fooled by the Vivitar brand-name. This so-called camera is junk.

This was such a great investment. I purchased 2 for my son and his friend to use while on vacation, they used it snow tubing, on go karts, water slides, and in a ball as they rolled down a hill....SUCH GREAT MEMORIES WERE CAPTURED!
