There's nothing here I didn't learn at Berklee and basic improvisation books by just about any publisher, for any instrument.Chordal and arpeggio approaches are still superior, even if Miles and Evans thought otherwise.With the arp. method you only have to learn 4 notes and can use the same ones to solo over many various changes in Jazz, while introducing amazing tension and feel for interesting harmony.Learning chord scales is just antiquated.On an advanced 2 bar turn-around, are you really going to every scale ?D-minor, F, B-7b5, and BbM7 will easily work over a G7........

This is a well laid-out course book, that will get anyone with piano-playing experience improvising straight away. A lovely course book.

Not easy reading for me... may be perfect for you however.

Das Buch hat dreifachen Nutzen:Im ersten Teil liefert es Erklärungen wie im Jazz Tonleitern und Akkordfolgen zusammenhängen und wie man das üben kann.Die CD bietet eine Menge Jazz-Play-Alongs zu denen man Soli ausprobieren kann. Und die zweite Hälfte des Buches druckt sorgfältig in Form eines Skalenlexikons Jazztonleitern ab. Mit sorgfältig meine ich, dass beide Hände dargestellt werden und dass man nicht einfach die modalen Skalen und die Bluestonleiter für C-Dur druckt und dann sagt: funktioniert analog auch in allen anderen Tonarten. Sondern jede Skala in allen Tonarten ist dargestellt.Allerdings sollte man für die Benutzung des Buches Akkordangaben wie: C7(b9,13) oder C7(#11), Bb7 Lydian b7, A7(alt) usw. verstehen und umsetzen können.Hinzu kommt aber der für deutsche Verhältnisse sensationell günstige Preis für 102 Din-A 4 Seiten plus CD, wenn man das Buch in England bestellt.Voraussetzungen: Englisch, Notenkenntnisse, das Wissen um die Umsetzung von Jazzakkord-Bezeichnungen, ein Keyboard
