Pitch-perfect narration, quick moving plot, characters you can't help but adore, tons of diversity, and so much more. Did I mention it's hilarious? Issues addressed include divorce, friendship issues, homophobia, body issues (nobody writes about fat positivity better than Julie Murphy) and more. Must-buy for all elementary and middle school libraries. Kirkus reviewed it for ages 8 - 12, but I think it's a must-buy for ages 8 - 13 (important distinction for me b/c sometimes I skip buying books that skew too young). Don't skip buying this one. It's AMAZING. .

Julie Murphie put her all in this book. Sweet Pea faces real challenges and she overcomes them slowly but surely. This book broke my heart and I felt Sweet Pea's pain. I felt as if I were there. It is strange how this little book can make you laugh, cry, & gasp. Sweet Pea tells us that being a human is not perfect. She shows us that we can't just cruise past life, that we have to embrace it & we have to live with what we got, after all nobody's perfect. -BookNerd101

I bought this for my daughter's friend for a birthday present. She loved this book! It made her read other books from this author.

I love Julie’s books and am so happy to have this one to recommend to my 7th graders now. Sweet Pea is relatable. She’s a girl that many girls need who didn’t exist before this book. Thank you to Julie for writing about real girls and real experiences that kids need.

I wish I had this book when I was in middle school but it still has the power to guide anyone at any age through life's rocky moments. Going on my personal classics shelf.
