Visions of Ophelia (German, English and French Edition) Hardcover – September 10, 2007

I bought this book after seeing the content that J.C. Gilbert had posted on his website. I titled this review refreshingly fantastic for the following reasons: Anyone can grab a camera - any girl can pose - but that's not what you have here. His pictures contain "soul" - carefully done to portray very real and beautiful young women without making them slutty. It takes one to the edge of sensuality without being exploitative. I look at the images in this book and would be proud to have my name on any of them. As a beginning photographer, I hope that over time I can also have my "vision" and that it is even half as good as his. Thank you for producing such a great work of art.

As is the case with most photography books, the best image is on the cover and it goes downhill from there. In the case of this book, I would say that maybe 10% of the images inside are close to or of the same quality of the image on the cover. I always go through a photography book as if I were judging each photograph on it's merits. I also look at these images as if I were the one who took the photograph and say to myself, is this an image that I would put up on the wall and be proud of. Most of the time they're just not that good. Anybody can take a picture of a naked girl, but it takes time and talent to take one that is well lit, has good composition and has the kind of impact that makes you say to yourself, wow, I wish I had taken that picture.

Very Fine book, I was so happy to get one, the photo's are truly Beautiful beauty. Jack Gilbert did and Phenomenal job capturing the true beauty of women. Vision's of true beauty, flawless

Jack Gilbert's view of the female form in all of it's youthful zeal as featured in this book, is one of a true "eye" for the soul of a photograph. His work with these models brings forth a vision of artist beauty while still capturing the fun of you, their zest for life and having fun along with bringing a connection to the viewer that touches a cord with his imagery.I would recommend this photographic vision for the true collector or the essence of what a woman is all about.

Das Buch besteht aus schönen, in schwarzweiß gehaltenen Fineart-Aufnahmen.Im großen und ganzen sind die Modells gut in Szene gesetzt.Für Fans klassischer Aktfotografieren lohnenswertes Buch.

A wasted opportunity. This book has about 120 photos in it and about 20 are sensational. The rest are either out of focus or just average.I just cut the good ones out and put them in a photo album (they are that good). I have not got time to look at 6 photos to find one worth seeing again.Why not make the book with fewer pages or wait until you had more good photos ?

Es handelt sich um ein ein festgebundenes, hochwertiges Buch mit guter Papierqualität. Der nunmehr ermäßigte Preis bedeutet wenig Geld für ein gut verarbeitetes Buch.Aber - auf den Inhalt kommt es an und da treffen die meisten Motive nicht meinen Geschmack. Nachdem ich mir den Band mehrfach intensiv angesehen hatte, fand ich zu dem Eindruck, daß es Meister gibt, die einen schönen Damenkörper gekonnter in Szene zu setzen verstehen. Die Aufnahmen kommen mir wie mechanisch abgearbeitet, irgendwie lieblos vor. Daß es der Photograph auch anders kann, zeigt er bei zwei oder drei Aufnahmen, doch das ist mir zu wenig. Dafür habe ich zu viele bessere Alternativen im Regal.
