Very good story
4 stars because chapters not marked. This is much like a drifter series you might have read. Jack Bunker (not his real name) is getting away from his previous life .on a train going to Denver , a plane crashes and the train just stops. No electricity to access the Internet or computers. He and a woman and her son head for the nearest town, Clearwater .What would happen if an EMP hit where I live. Scary

Great apocalyptic beginning!
Bunker has a storyline that begins the Mission Critical series with tension, drama and danger. The characters are still be developed but enough is learned about the MCs to make me want to read book 2 immediately! I highly recommend it.Read via Kindle Unlimited

Bad guy turns into a hero after trying to start a new life… then the world throws a wrench into the works…
Have you ever wanted to change your path in your life? So you start a new path, and the world throws a wrench into the works and what happens? THIS is why I read this book! Then throw in people, and you will see things that you do not expect… even from yourself. In life there is always the “what if” moment and this book captures quite a few and tornado(s) in/of life (metaphorical) twists in a few heart beats to change who and what you are, literally. Falconer captures this essence and translates that essence into a very interesting tale that is easily recognizable, readable, enjoyable (my opinion), and traverses a partial landscape of changing lives in a single day. A very personable reading, with characters I would like to know (at least some of them). I recommend this book to anyone and everyone. And I wish this book to be made, as is, into a movie, so that more people see what other people go through sometimes in their lives.BTW: I am a high school graduate with a few college credits. I rarely write book reviews, mainly on sci-Fi books. I am NOT paid and receive(d) Nothing for writing this review. I am blunt and brutal with the truth (I know that is not nice, but I am not into deception either).

Safe, Maudlin Post-Apocalyptic Small Town Drama; lacking prepper realism and the gritty edge I like in TEOTWAWKI fiction
Bunker is the first in a series of Post-Apocalyptic novels by award winning Amazon author Jay Falconer dealing with the effects of an EMP disaster crisis created by a globalist conspiracy. The protagonist, Jack Bunker, is supposed to be a former Marine with a mysterious past. I found the title and the cover art to be somewhat misleading. Jack Bunker never dons military gear, nor even carries a firearm in this story. There is no physical bunker related to his survival during the EMP disaster. Instead he is a common drifter riding along on a train to Denver when the power grid goes down. Exiting the stalled train and heading for the nearest town, Bunker finds himself teamed with a newly separated single mom and her son. Along the way they rescue a busload of school children, a trite little misadventure that turns Bunker into the local hero. Meanwhile, at the nearby village, we meet a cast of stock "middle America" characters who have a bunch of small-minded conflicts meant to give the story added drama. Falconer is a good enough writer that the story moves along well but it's boring. Jack Bunker displays little in the way of survivalist or crisis management savvy despite being a former Marine (leading me to suspect he was an admin clerk in the Air Wing). He has a collection of freaky tattoos meant to signal a nefarious past but he comes across as a harmless, low-ranking boy scout type in a hurry to get somewhere although we never get a clue exactly why. Tattoos don't make a tough guy nor do they mark a veteran as being particularly competent or seasoned. This is a safe read for the 12-14 crowd or readers who want to avoid erotica and foul language. But if you are looking for grit, realism or edgy post-apocalyptic prepper stuff, you won't find it here. That being said, I am impressed by Falconer's self-publishing output and intrigued by his other titles. So maybe this Bunker series needs a little more time to grow it's conceptual wings.

Good start to a SHTF series
The author makes no bones about the fact that this series is written in serial fashion, so it should surprise nobody that book one ends abruptly with no resolution to the overall story arc. The immediate peril described in book 1 does come to a satisfactory conclusion, however. This is an entertaining novel (novella, really) in the apocolyptic sh*t-hits-the-fan genre. Most of the story is character introduction and the immediate (less than 24 hours) aftermath of an EMP. That is not a spoiler, as it is obvious from the get-go that this is what has happened. The novel is well written and free from obvious errors, which is commendable as it is self-published.The series is definitely worth the read, and the best part is the rest of the story is published and can be obtained through kindle unlimited. On to book 2!

Somewhat disappointing
From the get-go, the cover is misleading. the protagonist, Bunker does not wear a helmet and combat outfit nor does he carry a rifle thruout Book 1. the child in the rear is described as a ten year old boy, and she does not carry him. This is an EMP story, yet it plays a minor role in the story, as most of the book concerns Bunker and the woman Stephanie trying to get 20 children out of a crashed school bus teetering on a cliff, the suspense being trying to get the kids out before the bus tips over the cliff. That the bus driver is dead is mot mentioned until well into this scene, almost as an afterthought. Both the romance interest and her son come on as rather spoiled, asking a lot of questions that is none of their business. Author does not know his firearms, at one point a man "pulls back the triggers" on his double barrel shotgun, when he should have said hammers, a gross error. There are a few missing words. All in all, I was somewhat disappointed in the story, which I thought was going to be pure post apocalyptic, but turned out to be a rescue story, an unrelated digression. Obviously, author does not have much thought about life in a P-A world, and instead injects unrelated stuff. I don't think I will bother with Book 2.

Too short
EMP - train stops - introduce veteran soldier - rescue kids -End!!!As a sample it would have been fine but it fell way short of a ‘book’. Content was ok just not enough!!!Sorry but that is the way I rate it.

A good read
For me, this was a slow burner, giving just enough to get you hooked. I really enjoyed the book, so I bought the next one.

Pages not following (all miss matched)!!!
Difficult to follow the story line when turning pages and the sentence does not follow. Might be a good book if I could read it.
