A Simple Tool That Works Perfectly
I recently ordered two of these from Amazon to be used in conjunction with my Jorgensen wood vices ( Jorgensen 41012 Woodworkers Vise ). I considered making my own bench dogs from dowelling and plywood, but, for the price of these Jorgensen units, I decided just to order a couple instead. From the photo, I expected these to be rough black iron, but they're not that at all. They're smooth, shiny silver, which I actually prefer. I measured the shaft on these with a set of dial callipers, and they are exactly 0.750 inches in diameter. Be warned, if you have 3/4" bench dog holes on your bench, these are going to be a *tight* fit! My bench dog holes are actually 7/8", so, on my bench, the fit is sloppy. Personally, I want sloppy, because I want the dogs to simply drop in and pull out with no forcing in either direction. Even so, 7/8" is probably too big for these dogs. If I had it to do again, I'd go with 13/16" holes.Even in my 1/8" oversized holes, these bench dogs work like a champ. I especially appreciate that the cross bar is thin (1/4"), so the dog stays below the top surface of even relatively thin stock. I would definitely recommend these to anyone who is looking for sturdy bench dogs.

Old style, good for the time
These bench dogs were exactly what I was looking for. They are a bit tight getting into the bench holes. I didn't know what to think about the new style of bench dogs that have more of a lip to hold your project. I ended up buying 4 of the new style and love them. They find easily into the bench holes and have a spring along the side to hold in place. Nice.

Simple and well made.... I use them often!
This is a small simple bench dog. Want something fancy? This isn't it.Want something hard to hurt, well made, and easy to use? This is it.No plastic crap here! These are inexpensive enough to "modify" to meet any specific need you may have for a larger flat surfact to pull against.... you certainly will NOT break this 3/4" solid steel shaft. I use them nearly daily and will buy them again if needed. The top plate is solid 1/4" steel so you can drill & tap it to attach wood block or more steel to enlarge as needed.

Metric?
I drilled my own dog holes at 3/4" and these things are VERY snug, too snug. They must be metric size. I also did not recieve black as pictured but a silver. Not a deal breaker just innaccurate.

Poorly Crafted
The product was not well crafted. The top was not centered lengthwise on the post and was slightly tipped . . . not square to the post. Pretty simple item to fabricate. One would think it wouldn't be too hard to get right.

Nothing bad to say
Nothing bad to say about the product. Once I get a wood vice, I'll get to use them. See my review for the vice issue.

Bench Dogs
One of the simplest wood working tools in our shop but incredibly important for holding wood in place for hand planing or sanding. Well made and well worth the cost.

Just what I wanted
I bought these for a school shop and they are just what I needed. They are a bright silver, which my others are not. They work as intended and seem well made.
