I started listening to Audio books a year ago due to long commutes and boring work-outs. I've listened to over 50 books. Susan Ericksen is the very best voice I've ever heard. The books have multiple characters and types of people and she hits a bull's eye everytime. The rich snob, the "chem head", the drunken "girls night out", the hurt/angry/scared/brave heorine, the cold/steely/passionate hero. She adds nuances and inflections that make the characters come alive. When she does fast "back and forth" dialog between two or more characters she nails it, you know exactly who is speaking! As far as the books - I enjoy the JD Robb persona/writer to the Norma Roberts. I've avoided these "In Death" books for years because the "futuristic" aspect (occurs in 2058) turned me off. The books were getting such rave reviews that I finally broke down and bought them. I am so glad. The future setting is not at all off-putting, it's fun and interesting. Many of the things are not at all unbelievable and the things that are (inter-planet travel as common as inter-national)are just touched on lightly. The mysteries are fun, the stories rich and complex with characters and emotions and, thankfully, the pace is fast. I didn't give a perfect score because I like a little more sex - not erotica, just a little more seduction, heat and sexiness. Or, in the absence of sex, lots more humor. I've ordered the #2 through #8 CD collections and I can't wait to get them. Excellent buy.

I've been buying these Robb "In Death" crime collections on audio for my nightly "story time" for quite a while now. Nora Roberts writes a good, solid, dependable crime tale each time. I'm not sure of why she's chosen to place the time line in "the future" - it is not apropos to the story - but then it doesn't detract from it either.The heroine's rich sexy Irish husband seems to find his way into most of the tales either as a suspect or a surreptitious helper but I accepted his addition due to the added juicy sex scenes...sigh....The narrator is top rate. Being an aficionado of books on tape I can attest to the fact that Susan Ericksen is the best. She's actually the one who moves these books from ordinary to exceptional and brings them to life.These 3 book collections are a thrifty way of purchasing Robb's set. I'm giving the same review to all of these audio collections as they are quite equal. Well worth your time and money....bg

I have purchased & read all of J.D. Robb's Eve Dallas books, but I love to listen to books while driving. I purchased J.D. Robb CD Collection 2 at a great price. After listening to all three books, I really wanted to reacquaint myself with the first three books. I searched on Amazon and found them at a good price. Although these are abridged, they maintained enough of the original text to make them very enjoyable. I have lent them to a friend who listens to books while running, but recommend the full unabridged versions to all. The abridged versions miss a lot of the descriptions of the period and in-depth information on relationships which make Robb's books so memorable.

Anything written by J.D. Robb (who is really Nora Roberts)is outstanding!! The whole series "________ in Death" is about a NY City Cop named Leutenant Eve Dallas and her handsome multi-billionaire husband, Roark, and murder!! The characters are alive, the situations often gruesome, language and imagery is often graphic and earthy, and the whole mixture makes for a listening pleasure you never want to stop! I'm sure the books are the kind you can't put down! But as I have no time to "sit and read" I "sit and listen" when moving from one place to another - phenominal way to make a boring commute over in the blink of an eye! I hope she never stops writing these!

i love JD Robb and all of the 'in death' stories. This collection however is an Abridged version so If you have read the books over and over and over again like I have and you know the stories front and back and in and out, you will definitely notice when they leave something out. Some people it does not bother but it does me. The story is still wonderful but I know that I am missing parts and will only get unabridged versions in the future.

Great starter set-Books 1-3- to the 52 currently printed “in Death” series. Great way to see if you want to join this group of on going characters.

I bought this product because I love the books by J.D Robb. I was not aware that this was an abridged version and they would only focus on Eve and Roake and would not read the parts about Peabody and Macnab or Mavis. If you have never read the books this is a good introductions but to someone who has read the books it is very disappointing and I will not purchase any more audio cd of the in death series.

I'm a J.D. Robb fan...can't get enough of Eve Dallas and Rourke...:)
