I used to hate sardines.
Trying this product made me like them. I sprinkle some pink himalayan salt on them and they taste great right out of the can. I never thought I'd ever eat sardines out of a can before. I've tried over 10 other different kinds (even some from this brand), and none of the other ones even come close to these. Not sure what's so different about them. Highly recommended! Best low sodium option I could find for Brisling Sardines.
Great low sodium option for Brisling Sardine lovers. I've been eating Sardines for a few years now and I prefer Brisling Sardines from Crown Prince or King Oscar. I used to buy them locally but I don't have the same choices available these days. I've been consuming more and more Sardines and Kipper Snacks so I decided to search out lower sodium options for both. I found these Crown Prince Natural Kipper Snacks - Low in Sodium, 3.25 Ounce Cans (Pack of 18) as my low sodium choice for Kipper Snacks. My Sardine search turned up this product packed in Spring Water and these Crown Prince One Layer Brisling Sardines in Oil, No Salt Added, 3.75-Ounce Cans (Pack of 12) . I remember seeing Sardines packed in Soybean Oil in the past wondering WHY?! I'm perfectly happy with extra virgin olive oil and I like the taste. The ONLY reason I decided to try the soy oil product is because I assumed I might not like these Sardines packed in spring water. Boy, was I wrong. I really like the taste of these sardines packed in spring water and they have 90mg Sodium vs 125mg Sodium found in the Sardines packed in soy oil. I really don't like the taste of the soy oil sardines so it is a win-win the product that tastes best is lower in sodium as well. I don't need to compromise on taste to reduce my sodium intake. Another bonus is I can drain this can directly into the sink and not have to mess with our "grease can" like I do with sardines packed in oil. This product is my first Subscribe and Save item. I will always have a case on hand. I couldn't even find a low sodium product from King Oscar. Both of their products that claim no sodium added, one packed in spring water AND their sardines packed in soybean oil have 200mg of Sodium.

What happened?
UPDATED upon receipt of second Pack of 12. The Crown Prince Brisling Sardines has changed packaging and so has the product. I've ordered the pack of 12 a few times before and they were quite good, 5 star. The new product is something I will not order again. I've now opened and eaten 4 of the 12 cans and all are consistently poor quality. I don't know if the company changed hands or just packing equipment. The sardines no longer fill the container, although the weight with the excess of watery fluid around them might make up the difference. This was the Mediterranean style, but it is more watery with less olive oil and less spice too. The individual sardines appear to be equal in quality, but the preparation is not anything like the past. Since I have a few cans of the former quality, I probably should open both side by side and show just how much the product has changed. This is my goto standard for Sardines with only the 2 layer bristling Crown Prince Sardines coming in 2nd.

Love the taste
Originally posted as one star due to cam issues...see below. I am now changing my rating to four stars. They claim they did testing and everything is fine, but to be safe, the manufacturer is sending replacement product! It's just unfortunate Amazon did not reach out to let customers know of the issue.Love the taste; however...I purchased these in December 2016. Expiration isn't until sometime in 2018. I have them stored in a cool and dry basement. When I went to grab a can the other day, I was shocked. Every single van has expanded greatly. Enough so, that they will not stack well on each other. I'm ready to throw them out as I'm afraid they are unsafe to eat and may even break open and leave a huge stinking mess.

Best sardines ever!
I grew up eating these as a kid and I just recently rediscovered them. I tried both these and Prince Oscar brands. These taste much MUCH better. The Crown Prince sardines are a wee bit smokier, the fish has a better taste and the olive oil is better quality. The sardines are also a bit larger than the Oscar brand. They may be a bit more expensive but in my opinion they are worth the cost. I've found these are great for small meals or snacks because when eaten with some decent bread or rye crisps they keep me feeling full for hours while also being heart healthy and delicious.

Very tasty right out of the can
These didn't smell bad and tasted great as-is, right out of the can, with no extra condiments needed. In contrast, the King Oscar brand of EVOO sardines smelled like an old, used cooler that had been left closed for a long time. Granted, they tasted OK but needed some extra condiments to make them more palatable. These cost more than the King Oscar but are worth the price difference, IMO.

... got to me + wanted to research for a better quality sardines one day
I used to get canned sardines from Trader Joe's and something got to me + wanted to research for a better quality sardines one day..After some research - this one was the one I chose to go with at the affordable price..2 layer of Wild caught sardines (wood smoked) comes in extra virgin olive oil in BPA Free cans.. It was a great choice.. I don't think I can go back to the sardines I used to get from Trader Joe's after this.. Trader Joe's sardines are overly processed compare to this..Yes, this made to my subscribe + save basket too.. Make great caper and olive sardine pasta!!! highly highly highly recommend!
