Works well for me on cable/trolley run
I really like how this keeps my dog (45lb youngster with lots of energy) from getting tangled in the cable, as she did so often with the original non-retractable cable that came with the run. The first one i had broke because i used normal zip ties to secure it to the pulley. after some use the zip ties broke and it slammed into the ground hard breaking the reel open.. Now i've secured it with heavy duty ties that have a width 5-6 times greater than the old ones and i trust it now. of course will have to check the ties every few months. this was the only device i could find that did what i wanted, at least on Amazon.

Great product, holds both my dogs well
Bought this because I was tired of walking my dogs on the leash four times a day and it’s been a lifesaver. I just hook them up and they come to the door when they are done unhook them at the door. It’s very sturdy holds my 100lb dog and 10lb dog very well! Doesn’t break easy and very well made.

ANOTHER BROKEN PRODUCT DUE TO INEFFECTIVE WELDING
I purchased the reel for large dogs, the red reel.I ignored the reviews about the quality of this item and purchased it any way as there aren’t a lot of options out there for a product like this.Huge mistake! I have a feeling everyone who gave positive reviews, gave their reviews prematurely without using this product for more than a week.My dog isn’t a puller when she’s out. And she’s only out a handful of times a day in this and only for a minute to go to the bathroom. The wheel where it is welded completely came off from just normal every day use of the tension created by the dog unraveling the cord. The product lasted 1 week before breaking. I would estimate it saw about 45 minutes of use overall. This is inexcusable! The screws it came with were a joke, as other reviewers noted, so I used heavy duty decking screws which held perfectly. It was the product’s welding that is worthless. The product itself, if it was welded in an appropriate fashion, would be a 5 star item. Unfortunately, this is not the case.DO NOT TRUST THIS ITEM TO KEEP YOUR DOG SAFE!!!!!!!

Disappointed
A bit disappointed in this item. I ordered one for large dogs,(over 80lbs) thinking it would be best for my very active medium size dog, (under 50 lbs). It only took her 10 minutes to pull the screws out of the deck and take off after the neighbors cat, dragging this unit after her.The screws ( all 4 ) came out of the decking with just one hard pull. They are only about 1/2" long, although stout. I would recommend replacing the screws that come with this unit with longer ones. Also, when it was pulled out of the deck, the weld holding the unit to the bracket cracked, rendering it useless. The unit itself, the retractable leash part, works fine., it retracts and plays out smoothly. I feel if it had come with longer screws in the first place, it would have been the perfect unit for my situation. Unfortunately, I am left with a unit that I'll need to have repaired before I can use it again.I would not recommend this unit for active dogs, in any weight class.

Worked amazing
We have had ours now for 3 years lasted that long. With all the poor reviews I had little hope it would last me 6 months. It has finally stopped retracting so we will be purchasing it again.

Disappointed
My dog destroyed this after about two weeks. Completely tore the housing apart. And the metal frame is bent. I patched it up once but anytime my dog runs to the end of her lead she snaps the housing apart. Also the lead on this is extremely short but I simply connected another lead to this. Overall this would probably be great for small to med dogs. But a med-large dog it’s useless.

USE DEEPER SCREWS for attaching to posts etc.
I have 2 large afghan hounds, and they make good rough use out of these. We have ours hooked up to a zip line spanning the length of our yard, and they will run back and forth slamming the reel in to the edges of the line. With that kind of daily use, we replace these once a year. Even after the year, they are still in good shape, however, age, and weather, along with rough use, makes it a greater risk of failure. I buy 2 of these every year. Worth it!! If you are just using it as a standard tie out with no regular stress or tension, they will most likely last longer. Do NOT use the screws that come with the unit! Use longer screws as the ones that come with the reel are NOT deep enough to hold.

Does the job
I've got 1 of these for my Dog at my workshop and it's a lot better than the old one, I didn't use the screws or nut and used better ones, the only other thing it could do with being longer but all in all its a good thing 👍

I like this. but
I like this. but, the retract force is too much for our dog. he is well leash trained so the pull makes him think that he is being corrected. If it had a lock feature so when out it would stay a length but push the button and it retracts it would be awesome. Now i use a clip to do this.
