Comfortable, but not in wet weather
I bought these shoes in 2018. Now it has been two years, and I finally decided to write a review.First of all, I am not a runner. I mainly walk in the park trails - walking surfaces range from concrete to soil to grass to occasional rocky terrains. On certain days I walk hours straight, sometimes the entire day, and I wanted a pair of comfortable minimalist shoes with no heel drop - hence this purchase. After two years, I think I'm probably reaching close to the 5000 mile guarantee (I wasn't keep track of miles). The soles are showing early signs of separation. Some of the treads near the top have worn down. However, it is still wearable. This shoe has performed significantly better than those $20 "Martial Arts" shoes, which tends to wear out in 3 months for me.The shoe is about a half size smaller than my foot size, so I ordered a half size up, and I'm glad I did.Pros:Very lightweight. Very comfortable. Very Breathable. Probably the most comfortable shoe out of my current four pairs of shoes. My feet doesn't get too sweaty after a day of walking.Cons:Not waterproof. Sole is not slip or oil resistant.I don't know why this shoe is marketed as a 'hiking shoe'. The breathability of the shoe material seems to be a trade-off for waterproofing. I walk in the grass covered with morning dew and after 5 minutes, the shoe is soaked on the inside. To me, any shoe that can't stand water entering after 5 minutes of wet grass is not a hiking shoe. It's a wimpy shoe not meant for hiking. How can these shoes be hiking shoes? Certainly not every hiking surface is going to be dry all the time.I think I might be a wimp myself since I can't stand the feeling of wet socks.Whats more, the breathable material extends from the top of the shoe to approximately 5/8'' above the sole of the shoe. The sole of the shoe is waterproof as well as the 5/8'' of material above the sole. This means that after water enters the shoe through the breathable material, it basically pools inside of the shoe in that 5/8'' layer of space. I felt like I was walking on shallow water with wet socks while walking in those shoes during a rainfall. Ugh, not a good feeling for me.And boy does this shoe collect water fast. Yesterday it was sprinkling. Not raining. Sprinkling. Light sprinkling. I made the mistake of wearing these shoes outside, and I swear, these shoes got wet on the inside faster than my girlfriend in the throes of passion. I will never wear these shoes in any weather that is even remotely precipitating.Don't even think about wearing these shoes on the ice, or in a restaurant kitchen. I've walked in a restaurant kitchen once with these shoes and I almost slipped (three times) and died. I've walked on the ice once in the winter and I saw my entire life flashing in front of my eyes. I am not a daredevil. I will not cheat death like this again. This makes me wonder - when can I actually wear these shoes? Not in the winter. Not in rainy weather. Only on clear days with dry ground. Considering that over here winter is pretty much half the year, and spring and autumn tend to be rainy, that leaves mostly summer months. A shoe that I can only wear comfortably for about 4 months of the year is not a very versatile shoe. I would hesitate to purchase these shoes again. So I want to deduct two stars for all of the times I've felt irritated with the shoe. However, I'm a nice guy and I'm in a good mood today. I'll give these shoes a four star rating. Don't get me wrong - these shoes are very very comfortable, and on a dry day, I would not hesitate in grabbing these shoes for an entire day of walk. These shoes are wimps, but they are loveable wimps, and I love how comfortable and light they are.But on any weather but a dry day...Run. Run far far away from these shoes...

First impressions of the Xero Terraflex, men's size 12
Good: Overall I like it.Good, Detailed: Toe guard is well constructed. Very lightweight shoe, close to the Merrell Trail Glove 4 that I liked so much. That Merrell was not quite enough padding on the rough parts of Washington Cascades (PCT-J).Deeper lugs than that comparison. But not as deep as the Inov-8 Terraultra G260. Feel like this shoe might be a good compromise between the Merrell and the Inov-8. Walked some hard roots by the creek, and it felt well shielded. Climbed a 30-40deg incline, gripped really well on wet clay and loose gravel. The toe box is wide, the bridge is not too tight. Sole/insole padding is good enough (my preference is minimum necessary to shield rocks and roots).Bad, Detailed: I bought a size 12, and while it is plenty wide, it feels maybe a 1/4 size too short, while wearing my typical hiking socks. Maybe I should swap for a 12.5, but I'm not sure. The lugs were very slick on the tile in the kitchen after getting wet outside, and may not do well on slick rock surfaces. Shoe strings are a tad short for my preferred settings and foot size.Construction:Like all modern shoes, the sole is glued to the bottom. It feels like the rubber is harder than the Inov-8 or Merrell shoe. The front lugs are a little longer at the ball of the foot than the heel. The lugs are narrower, with less surface area for gripping hard surfaces. This explains the slickness on tile, but here's hoping the rubber lasts a little longer. The insole pad is removable. Thick foam padding throughout the ankle area. The front half of the cover is double stitched, and most of the back half is single stitched. The cover and interior feels like typical polyester or nylon materials. A soft rubber material extends up from the sole by ~1", around the bottom of the cover. Probably for additional water and mud protection. The toe guard is another layer of harder rubber glued and double stitched over the other soft rubber cover. Doubling up like that should be adequate protection for the toes.A nylon ribbon is integrated into the lacing system and into the cover. It allows for adjustment of the tightness of the bridge and toe box.The black on grey is stylish enough, but who cares on the trail.5-29-2022

Great lightweight trail running shoe
Only worn them once on a muddy trail run today. Four miles across mixed terrain (mud, grass, some rocks and knobby root stocks). Felt really comfortable, helped deflect a lot (but not all) of the harder, pointer surface stones. I wouldn't necessarily want to wear them on trails that are predominantly sharp stones, but otherwise good underfoot protection for a lightweight / borderline minimalist shoe. Fits relatively true to size, although if you are someone in between sizes, I'd suggest going to the next size up to be safe. Great knobs which helped for traction in the muddy areas. All around, very happy with the purchase so far. Now to see how they hold up over time.

Wow
Much better shoe than average. I have to force myself not to wear them everyday. I like the spring feel to it. Also, I wore out a new pair of running shoes on my tread mill, but these shoes show no sign of use after many miles. I've bought a second pair, the water shoe.I'll probably buy more, if these wear out.

Comfortable shoe
I bought this to help my plantar fasciitis. It has the most rubber on the heal and thus a little more comfortable for me. The only problem is that they can be a bit slippery on smooth, damp surfaces like my pine outside stairs, which were wet after a bit of rain. They are of course great for bush walking and outside exercise.

Tallas reducidas.

These are comfortable and light. There is plenty of room for my wide feet.
