Land of Shining Water #3
This is the third book in the Land of Shining Water series. The first two books were called The Icecutter's Daughter and The Quarryman's Bride.Chantel is part of the Panetta family. When her sister tells her that she's fallen in love with a Calarco, we have a Romeo and Juliet situation. The two families have been enemies for years and there seems to be no way this situation can have a happy ending. When Chantel is recruited to run interference between the couple and Calarco's brother, Chantel begins to have feelings for Dante Calarco.Dante wants to respect his father's wishes and obey him, but as time passes, he sees that his brother really cares about this woman and is devoted to her. As he gets to know the Panetta family better, he starts to think that maybe it is time for the two families to set aside their differences and move on, but nothing seems to get through to his father. It seems like Dante is going to have to choose between what he believes to be right and obeying his father.I really liked the characters in this one. I didn't start out liking Dante much, but as he grew and his opinions changed, I found him to be one of my favorite characters. Chantel was the troublemaker and peacekeeper at the same time, which made her a fun character. There was some sadness in this one, but it didn't ruin the book for me.This was a really well written story with deep characters and a flowing story line. This book isn't related to the other books in the series, so it's safe to read them out of order. They're all set in Minnesota, but that's where the connections end. It's a good series and I recommend it.

Another great read by this author
I have enjoying this whole series. Tracie Peterson is a lady who tells a good story. Her books are clean and the characters are well written. You can't go wrong with one of her books.

Nice purchase
This book is the third in a series. However, the only thing that connects the books in this series is that they are all set in Minnesota a century or so ago. They also all follow different immigrant types. This novel was about two Italian families who were part of long standing feud. Family and love are the strongest themes of this book.Personally, I found it to be very enjoyable, but nothing deep. Tracie Peterson writes with a Christian perspective and includes often how God works within the lives of the characters.

Family Feud......Is Not Just a Game Show
Hatfield's and McCoy's....Romeo and Juliet....Or Something in between. This story is heartwarming and yet irritating at the same time. Irritating in the fact that grown adults allow long lasting family feuds to affect their thinking on whether one is worthy of being on the same earth as themselves or not. It is prejudice .... period.Heartwarming and Tender to see how young adults from the same background can see the good in another person and reach out to make things better and to try to make changes. It may come easier to some than others....but they have the courage to move ahead.Sad that tragedy, pain and heartbreak has to be felt and dealt with, in order to bring two families together. The story, in the long run, was quite good and the message came through....loud and clear

The Miner's Lady
Trace Peterson winds up her trilogy, Land of Shining Water, with a story steeped in the traditions involving two Italian families, holding on to a 50 year feud. Working in an iron ore mine is dangerous work, and the family endured severe injuries that caused the patriarchs to turn to God to solve their differences. I can recommend this book as highly as the other two in the series. Each is a free-standing storyline and can be read in any order.

Good Story
I liked the character development and the references to many Italian traditions and foods. I liked that the characters didn't immediately fall in love it was quite subtle.
