Great quality product
This product is very important for my studies in Financial Planning. I purchased one before, and it appears to have been a fake because it doesn't feel like the quality of this one. The keys are sturdy and it handles the functions I enter seamlessly.

Great financial calculator. No problems. Question validity of old, bad reviews.
I love this calculator! I also have the regular HP 12C (gold), but I'm taking a Finance course final in 2 weeks, and I heard the platinum was a lot faster. Before ordering, I read all the negative reviews so I was a little wary. I also saw that most of those negative reviews were posted a very LONG time ago - the first one listed, "BADDER," was posted in 2004! When I sorted by Most Recent, MOST of the reviews were 5 stars!(Amazon, how does it benefit anyone to list outdated, negative reviews at the top?)Anyway... on to my very positive purchasing experience. Shipping was very fast! I ordered it yesterday afternoon and I received it today, less than 24 hours after placing my order (Yay, Prime!). And, I am VERY HAPPY with my new 12C platinum! I received a CD with the User's Guide (pdf you can download from CD), a Quick Start guide (paper copy), and a sturdy, leather-looking case. The new case has a plastic window in the front for a business card or some form of ID to show it's yours. Many features are the same as the 12C I already have, but I'm going through the Users guide and working the problems and learn about new features, and everything is working great! It's very fast, no flashing 'Running' yet. And, the colors on the keys are brighter, easier to see, helping you to work faster. And, there is a GOOD tactile feel when pushing the keys, it is better than my original 12C. I am very happy with my purchase!I recommend looking at the date of the review whenever you are evaluating products or services (wherever that is). 10- and 12- year old reviews of anything are generally worthless. And, for electronics, the quality problems that can be present in a newly released products will eventually get resolved or the product will fail. From the reviews, it seems this product was released around 2003/4, and it is still being sold today. Twelve years! And, now it's less than $100, it's a good deal. I think I paid nearly $400 for my HP 12C back around 2004.

Deal in Finance or Money? You need an HP12C
I have a pair of these HP12c handheld calculators..I got my first one back in the 1980s when working at an investment house..I got a new one last year just to be sure i always had one..they are totally necessary if you work a lot with numbers or investment. There IS A LEARNING CURVE (it uses..Reverse Polish Logic) but once you get adapted to it, you won't settle foranything else in a handheld. It's bullet proof and tough as nails and comes with a very good ops manual. If you trade stocks or anything else, you need (at least) one of these....

The forever calculator
This calculator is probably older than most of you reading this review. I'm on my 3rd now. Does everything one needs. Small and goes everywhere with me. I'm in finance and use the device multiple times daily. A forever product for me. Not expensive too and lasts a long time.

Great financial calculator made in Philippines
Great RPN financial calculator. Keys have very good tactile response. I have one for home, work, and travel. The only reason this one was replaced was due theft. The first HP 12c purchased many years ago is still going strong.

A slightly dissappointing modern version of the original HP 15C
I have had an HP 11C (scientific version) and HP 15C for many years (both manufactured in the US and Singapore) and I felt I needed an 'update' to the latest version. I purchased this so called 'Platinum' version on the assumption it would be a newer, better version of the original. The layout etc. and appearance look almost identical (apart from some additional key assignments) but it did not feel of the same quality as the original. This may be the colors used (cheaper looking 'Platinum' display area or red instead of yellow/gold highlights for functions) rather than build quality. The keys are much more 'clicky' which are quite different to the originals and are harder on the fingers. The keyboard works but feels less robust than the original. It does not feel as if it is going to give me the 30 years + of service that the originals have and continue to give me.The display is lightly larger which makes it easier to read. It now uses the ubiquitous CR2032 button batteries rather than the LR44 of the original which seemed to last for years. I am not sure of the longevity of the new version with the CR2032 batteries. The slip case is nice but the original feels a little better and I am not sure that it going to last as well as the original.I cannot complain about operation and it works as expected and looks the same, but the highlights for functions is red rather than gold/yellow which makes them more difficult to read. I am a dedicated RPN user and I originally bought the 11C as it was a dedicated RPN calculator as opposed to the Texas Instruments calculators which were algebraic. I notice that this new version has the ability to switch from RPN to Algebraic but defaults to RPN which shows that HP have not lost their direction. If you have never had one of these calculators, buy one (the originals are much more expensive used then these are new) as they are still, to my mind the best calculator on the market and very convenient to use (it is not always convenient to drag out and open up a laptop or iPad and find the calculator). I keep one on my desk for ready use even today.UPDATED 8 February:After using this for a while, I need to review my impressions of the keyboard. The fact is I now quite like the keyboard, having got used the new feel. My initial impressions stand, but I have grown used to this new incarnation. I will not change my rating but feel that you will not disappointed, especially if you do not have an original with which to compare. It still does not have quite the look and feel of the original, but it is functional and having got used to it I find it to be a great calculator from one of the great companies.

Old school elegance; a timeless purchase
It hasnt quite the authentic feel of a genuine 80`s produced 12C, but HP can be forgiven as those were probably still produced in bakelite! This takes me back to being a kid when my Dad had one in his briefcase. Its a beautiful device, well packaged and comes with a very neat leather pouch. Its the last calculator I will ever need to buy. Now, just to learn to use it properly!
