Leifheit Comfortline Gourmet Garlic Slicer review
This little gadget makes beautiful, perfectly thin slices of garlic. No shredding, just perfect slices.I love putting sliced garlic in Marinara rather than minced. I am really impressed by the quality of such an inexpensive item. It's very easy to use and does the job quickly. It's sharp and comes apart easily for cleaning. One thing I make sure and do is dry it quickly and completely after I wash it. From my experience, sharp things can get dull quickly if water is left on them. I do not put it in the dishwasher.Don't pay any attention to the bad reviews. If you have arthritic hands, you might want to skip any kind of garlic slicing gadget. This thing works great and would make a great little gift for your garlic-loving friend.

Perfect if you want thin slices of garlic.
It doesn't cut effortlessly but using this contraption is a lot more convenient than cutting the garlic with a knife. It's designed to do 1 thing and it does it pretty well. When using sliced garlic, I prefer very thin slices which means time to cut it properly and space with which to cut it. I have very little counter space and cutting board space so this space saving device is welcome. The holes can be a bit small if you have a mutant sized piece but a cut with a knife solves that problem. I do not think this device is a good replacement for a sharp knife and good skills, if you have those, you can cut faster, but it's great for convenience and uniform slices. It can be hard to turn and does require you to push down while turning like opening a child proof medicine bottle. The friction from this action does make it a bit of a chore and after cutting several juicy pieces in a dry kitchen, the device can get stuck from the sticky garlic juice. Despite the possible and occasional negatives, the device is handy and well designed. It comes apart for easy cleaning and does it's intended job.

Arthritis sufferers may have a problem
This slicer does an excellent job of giving you paper thin slices. The only problem is that it does take a good deal of pressure to push the top down to move the garlic through the blades. I have arthritis in my hands so this was an issue for me. My workaround is that I hold the slicer at an angle on the countertop and I don't fill the chamber full of garlic. I only put in a clove or 2. Other than that, it works great.

This thing works great.
We get thin slices of garlic that really mix well and add great flavor to the meal. Because of the thin slices, you get an even flavor throughout the dish. Cleans up easy either by hand or in the dishwasher . The end cap keeps the blade sharp by keeping it away from other items in the drawer that may dull the blade. We have had it for around 6 months and it still looks and works like new.

Slices garlic razor thin with very little effort! I love it!
I'll start with the fact that I am a kitchen gadget lover, so this was a fun purchase! This review is for the red and white "Leifheit 03046 Comfortline Gourmet Garlic Slicer | Finely Cut and Slice Vegetables" gadget. I was not paid for this review, nor did I get a freebie. (darn)I took it out of the box, washed it by hand, peeled three cloves, and dropped them into the slicer. A simple turn of the base, and shaved garlic was coming out the bottom from the two separate blades. In no time, you could slice many garlic cloves. Sure, you could stand at the kitchen counter slicing each clove with the precision that Paulie used in the movie Goodfellas, but you don't have to.The device will hold many cloves, though it should not be filled to the top, in order that the driving half will have room to engage with the wing inside, to turn it. Please see the images I've shared, to see how thin it slices. In one image, a single, average clove was sliced into one dozen pieces. That is thin enough for me! If you want thinner slices, just ease up as you press and turn. Heavy force is not necessary to use this device. It can be used to cut a number of things, though I would say nuts will likely dull the blade over time. I'll try it once just to see how well it slices almonds. Game changer!Update - holy cow! You have to get one of these. If you make carrot cake, drop a handful of nuts into this gadget, and give it a few turns. It creates lovely shavings of nuts that make the top of your cake look absolutely beautiful!I'm happy with this tool, and definitely recommend it.

Damaged
The slicer was shipped in a shipping bag. Probably should have been shipped in a box. The item seems ok but this was part of a Christmas gift so the packaging is unacceptable to give it this shape.

FANTASTIC!
I have a wonderful pasta recipe that calls for thinly sliced garlic, and I found it hard to get it consistently thin, especially when working with itty bitty cloves. Mincing effectively can be difficult too. After a LOT of research online for something along the liens of a garlic slicer/shaver, I found this. It works BEAUTIFULLY, and it is essentially just two easy to clean pieces. I peel the garlic (separate the cloves, cut off the root tips, and toss 'em in between two metal bowls and shake the bowls for 10-20 seconds), then put the garlic (all cloves at once) in this contraption, put the lid on, and turn. In a matter of seconds, super thinly shaved garlic spews out of the bottom, and it slices it ALL, with no garlic left behind (or just a shaving or two that is easily removed). It's also easy to rinse clean. At the same time, I also bought something that looked like a pepper mill for garlic that was supposed to mince it, but it was pretty much DOA. However, I've found that shaving it and then using a knife to mince the shaved garlic works great (much easier than trying to mince starting with whole cloves). This thing is FANTASTIC. I wish I'd discovered it years ago. BUY IT.
