Radical Self-Acceptance

Comparison to other books + SUGGESTION
What I want to know when I read reviews, is whether I should select this book or another, so here is my review intending to do that. Many books consist of new ways of thinking, which are very usefull but its impact is severly limited. That's because they forget that if you don't feel like something (for example a winner) that that does have SO MUCH MORE impact than conciously thinking you are a winner. Recent research from cognitive psychology confirms this: changing cognition doesn't necessarly lead to new behaviour and emotions. Than when you know it is wiser to make your focal point emotions, it can be that you can't find them. This books is a great help with that!!! The tonglen practise, where the breath is used to bring up emotions, is especially usefull. You know deep down that when you breath deeply that you can handle more, so the unconcious releases emotions more easily. AND a deep breath makes sure that the brain centers that help you with emotional regulation are running on full capacity, so faster results. Together with practises, it is a beautifull guide to the most beautiful relation to emotions and of course wise ways of thinking. One suggestion that was my main reason for writing this review: if you use the practices in this book together with EFT (easy, small book for doing that: The EFT Manual ), your effectiveness will be x50!!! No kidding!

Fantastic, Relatively Simply Stated, Immediately Usefull
Tara Brocks CD has helped me rid my concious, and subconcious, of things that have plagued me for 1/2 a century. I purchased the book first. I've better learned the material from the CD. ... Hearing the material brought it more to life in my learning style ... so much so, that I was easily able to start using more and more of the techniques presented with rapid results ... realizing totally successful results. As a professional in the realm of the medical fields, I have learned many ways to stop using, even (supposedly) to eliminate, tapes from past actions that were self-destructive to me. Some worked on some things. "Radical Self Acceptance" was suggested to me by a psychiatrist friend. The results for me have been staggering ... in a few short months I fully eliminated many negative 'mental tapes' with little or no recurrance over the past year+. And, it is getting stronger as time passes. While I also use the book, it is good for those who learn that way. The CD was sent to me from my higher power so I might find some welcome, permanent relief allowing for more joy in life.

Wonderful and healing
I love that she talks so openly about shame- which is often not talked about. I like her voice. I find what she says to be very comforting and very helpful around gently changing long-held beliefs (and increasing self-compassion). She covers so much and what she says is so meaningful that I have listened to it many times. I think people would find it helpful, even if they don't meditate. She's a Buddhist therapist, but the book is very useful for non-buddhists too (like me). There are wonderful meditations on the CD too. Of all the CDs I have ever bought, I like this one the most.

Excellent Intro to Mindfulness with a Heart
These tapes give true inspiration to putting the ageless wisdom of mindfulness to work in one's life. For anyone who longs to be free of suffering, a heart-felt and compassionate way to begin, or gain inspiration to continue. My only quibble is Teacher Tara Brach speaks in a monotone at some points-doubtless this would be soothing as a dharma talk in the meditation hall, but is a bit off putting when listening to at home.

Down home Buddhism
It's always a joy to hear Tara Brach's voice, and it comes through sweet and clear in her book. Buddhism and its literature can seem harsh sometimes, like running over jagged ice, as Philip Kapleau once put it. But the I.M.S. way, which Tara represents, is more like floating down a crystal clear stream. You'll only get bruised if you don't stay attentive, and even that's not a problem.Tara has always (for the past 17 years, anyway) espoused a gentler Buddhism than I imagined possible. In "Radical Self-Acceptance" she brings together all the threads of her deep commitment to that path. Doing this, she models the acceptance she advocates by showing us who she is, and how her own struggles have been "grist for the mill". Modeling Self-Acceptance as a radical, or root, process, Tara points us toward the realization that the Self we accept isn't our paltry ego but the life we share with all beings. Thanks, Tara, for the love you have brought to this project, and to all of us.

This CD can Change Your Life
When I got this CD I was a little put off by it at first... not by what the author was saying but by her pronunciation and tone (raather like Kathryn Hepburn) that at times seemed overly self-involved. I decided that I was going to ignore this and instead be open to all the good she had to offer. I am SO GLAD that I kept listening. These recordings contain a wealth of wisdom that will surely boost your personal growth and understanding. Just about everyone needs to love themselves more, and honestly, most people are clueless about how to do it. These lectures give you concrete ways to be more in touch with yourself and more understanding, which is the essence of love. I've listened to the whole series a few times, and gifted it to a couple of friends.

Completely satisfied . . .
You can never go wrong with Tara Brach, and this audio book is no exception. Tara covers this important topic with her usual grace, calm, and thoroughness. I had forgotten to check before making my purchase if Tara Brach was the reader on the CDs; fortunately, she is. Having her voice on the recording made the purchase even that more valuable. I've only had these CDs for two weeks and I have listened to them in my car three times. I never grow tired of the messages that Tara Brach brings on very relevant subjects.

A nice calming set of CDs
Tara Brach is a soft spoken sage of our ages. Her position on self-acceptance is solid and her calming voice helps you find a place to receive her message. If you are looking for a fast paced, in-your-face approach to radical self-acceptance, this is NOT your set of CDs. Tara is a calming force in our hectic world and helps bring us to that place of peacefulness.

Life-Changing!
AMAZING!!! These CDs are changing my life. I'm so glad I got the CDs instead of the book because I listen to them while laying in bed with my eyes closed, or in the car. One time I was angry and went for a drive and put one of the 3 CDs in and it told me what to do. Life-changing! I'm glad someone finally suggested it. It's based on Buddhist principles which I hadn't learned much about before. I listened to each CD at least 3x in the first week, and will continue to listen to them when I get stuck. I'm excited to get more CDs by this author on meditations.

Am glad to have purchased it
This is the first time I haven't drifted into sleep during a meditation. With a deeply relaxed manner about herself it seems to have a similar effect on myself as I listened. Am glad to have purchased it.
