Love this product, glad I didn't have to cook
This is so tasty it's addicting. Good thing it's too expensive, like all beef is, to really eat that often.

The pros and cons
Pros are this is a good product. Nicely canned, has a great flavor and when they can this stuff they just put the meat and the salt cube in the can and fire it up cooking it right in the can so the natural juices are actually from the meat itself. If anyone knows how canning is done, that is basically how commercial canning is done so do not let that freak you out if you eat tuna it is cooked in the can. The source of this meat is from the Ohio Valley which I do not know if you all care where your meat comes from but as we all know the fears of eating anything from China verses something made right here in the USA well.... that is a big plus. Our meat inspectors are involved, nuff said. The cons sure... one can if your Malmart carries this product I am in Colorado and no Malmart carries this meat, yours might Mine does not. Even if I order directly from Keystone which is located in Lima, Ohio, I would pay as much for shipping to Colorado than thru Amazon because of the distance. Now if I lived in the North East I might save 15 dollars on a case allotment thru Keystone and they do let you mix and match up the meats but you have to buy like 12 at a time and its like $110 but for me again I pay the same and it is nice to get it two or three cans at a time as I stock up and continue to build my food storage and using it as well, too keep the storage of this product from spoilage. The only real con and it almost makes me want to take away five stars is.. when Amazon is out they make this price $28 and when they have it in stock the price goes back down. I am not sure why this is the situation here, most frustrating. Initially when I saw that I called the company direct and almost ordered there. Amazon needs to stop doing that, it only pushes people to find another source to purchase when the price doubles for no reason.

The taste is quite good and I eat it plain and love being able ...
I have been purchasing Keystone meats for about two years.Recently I have noticed more fat in the beef. Before, there would be a small amount at the top of the can and now it is throughout. I dump out the beef to pick out the fat before using. Also last night I noticed a bit of gristle or something that I would not eat, but the taste and ease make it worth an occasional problem. The taste is quite good and I eat it plain and love being able to just open the can to make vegetable beef soup. I made roasted potatoes, onions, and carrots and just warmed the beef and served on the side. We loved it. I also use it to make steak and cheese subs (using roast beef) and it is perfect for this.

Surprisingly good for canned meat.
I've been buying these to make homemade meals for my dogs. The meat is very tender like wet pulled pork or beef short ribs. The color and smell is appetizing right out of the can. I dump it into a mixing bowl and can shred it very easily with a couple of forks. The meat is fully cooked, so you just need to reheat it a bit and dress it up with other ingredients. I add brown rice and some diced sweet potatoes and my dogs devour it licking their bowls clean (and clear across the kitchen floor). But this product was intended for human consumption and don't let the can dissuade you, it's well suited to the task. And unlike other canned meat products, this brand is very low in sodium. If you don't have the time or wherewithal to braise beef for hours, this will get you to a delicious home cooked meal in minutes with some basic kitchen know how wnd some modest ingredients. Definitely a wise addition to your pantry staples.

Great Pot Roast Flavor UPDATED 2/4/2015
Great tasting pot roast flavor. Not at all salty to me. Enjoyable to eat just warmed up with some broth poured on top. Moist. The minute fat I found still in the meat was tasty. This is cooked to a well-done temperature, so yes, the meat falls apart and is not really sliceable. If the can is cool, you will probably find a little fat, and possibly some gelatin, floating in the broth. It's not something that is going to turn me off, it's just a treat for my service dog. I have used the released broth to make gravy, for a soup base, required liquid in instant potatoes, and a treat for my service dog.Compared to Keystone Meats Chicken and Keystone Meats Turkey, there is a lot of broth but, for me at least, I would expect that. Different meats and cuts carry different amounts of liquid within the products.I would also suggest flipping over the cans, so the labels are upside-down. I have found, in a couple of cans, for the beef to have a light crust (like the top of a pot roast). By flipping the can over, you'll add a little bit of moisture back into the meat while it sits on the shelf. The one thing I really like is Keystone Meats actually embosses the used by date into the bottom of the can. It's not on the label nor is it imprinted on the metal.UPDATE 2/4/2015: Having used this a while now, I have found the absorbed saltiness to be varying. The only thing I can think of, is different cuts of beef absorb the salt differently. Just as some cuts of beef are fattier than others. When I've come across this, I'll add water to the broth, which helps leach out some salt, while it sits in the refrigerator waiting for me to use it the next day.

Acquired taste
It smelled ok, tasted ok, but the texture reminded me of other canned meats, like potted meat, Vienna sausage. There were big lumps of fat at the top of the opened can, and the fatty sheath that layers the muscles, came off as cheap or low quality.I tried pan heating on the stove, drained the liquid, and dropped some in meatless chili. Just ok. Probably won't get it again.
