Too partisan, full of made up stuff
I read the book and got more and more dismayed. He probably should have stuck to his contributions. One of the more blatant lies he propagates is the denial of Zia radio address. I was a 17 year old in Sylhet. I distinctly remember the radio address which my whole family listened to on a battery operated transistor radio. There are some facts that are new to me. I always thought Agartala conspiracy case was a made up Pakistani thing. But, Banarjee confirms that there was such a thing, albeit a haphazard attempt. The books is written from an Indian vantage point and it tries to do an admirable job. However,it is a poorly written account of the Liberation struggle of Bangladesh.

A personal view.
Readers should be aware that these are very personal, unverified remarks. Particularly where the author has not been a witness, or does not have personal knowledge, the books draws conclusions and passes comments which detracts from the substance of the author's remarkable association with Sheikh Mujib.

Not worthwhile
I have read many authors both foreign and local to Pakistan-India and Bangladesh. This is by the far the worst analysis of the war in East Pakistan. Author appear to trade off intellectual rigor for a general bias against Pakistani establishment. Some parts echo of the familiar conspiracy theories with little substance to back them up, like Mujib's murder being part of a grandiose ISI plot.I would recommend a much more impartial and well researched account by Gary Bass, Nixon, Kissinger and the Forgotten Genocide

The two reviews I read accuse author of coverup etc. I am not sure if they read it completely. Author has honestly stated that the conspiracy started in December 1962 when Mr.Mujibur Rahman wrote a letter to Mr.Nehru, then prime minister of India asking for financial help to start the movement and funding to operate from London. Later Mr Nehru responded in detail, after Mr Mujib started talks with CM at Agartala. Mr Nehru asked Mr Mujib not to trust CM, but keep communication with Indian consulate at Dacca and agreed in principal with Mujib, assured him, gave clear direction regarding the path to freedom from India. All this has been stated in this book.

Not the whole truth
Auther has completely failed to discuess India's role in the disintegration of Pakistan. It does not require rocket science to know that India took the full advantage of Pakistan's internal political crisis to intervene in former East Pakistan. It is on India's credit to introduce cross border terrorism in South Asia in 1971 by creating, training and supporting Mukti Bhanis thugs and terrorists. Why New Delhi did so? India have hegminic and expensionist designs in the region. It never enjoyed cordality with its neighbors China Pakistan Sri Lanka Nepal and even its own creation Bangladesh. From day first since it gained independence from British India created hell for Pakistan. It made Pakistan a security state by destablizing it.It imposed three wars against Pakistan. It illegally occupied the state of Jammu and Kashmir against the will of the Kashmiri people.Indian occuption army has massacered more then 100000 innocent Kashmiri childern men and women for their cry for freedom. Not only that it has killed over 30000 Sikhs in 1982 during its attack on Sikhs holy shirne of Golden Temple.India is claimed to be the largest democracy of the world but its actions in Kashmir, Assam,Nagaland,Teripura, Miniland and Gorkhaland speak otherwise. India is the country where churches are burnt and nuns are raped.Auther must have mentioned these facts before pleading India's case of aggression against Pakistan and Bangladesh's creation through India's naked military adventureism.

Bangladesh - India and Indira Gandhi's high point !!..
Great insight especially from India's perspective and coming from Mr Sashanka who saw all from absolutely close quarters It's even more authentic. For him to take time and effort to pen it down before memories fade is very commendable. The 'font' used makes for easy reading. Excellent English as well ..Creation of Bangladesh is one of India's and Indira Gandhi's highpoints ( highest point possibly ) and this is a must read book for anyone who has any any interest in India's History ...

Fantastic read about the geopolitical situation on East Pakistan, Bangladesh
It's a fantastic read about the geopolitical situation which lead to the rise of its mentor Mujibur Rahman.. the delicate handling of aspiration and the events leading upto the war..Must read if you want to understand the 1971 conflict and gaining a better understanding of the geopolitics and the constraints of that era..

An Indian Perspective
The author had unique access to the leading figures in Bangladesh moment. The book presents an INDIAN view point by a retired and faithful Indian diplomat. For those , keen to have an alternative view to balance , I would recommend work by S Bose and prof Sajad( waste of times) alongsideHaving said what happened during freedom struggle was bad and no one comes out with any credit
