Nothing gets in his way, except his past... In his breakout television role, multiple award winner Clive Owen stars as the talented, devious and utterly charming Derek 'Dex' Love - a City business analyst whose brilliant career, strategised under the pseudonym 'Stephen Crane', is stalked by a shady past. This complete-series release celebrates the twentieth anniversary of the first screening of Central's acclaimed drama, revisiting the fast-paced and emotionally compelling scripts that made Chancer a such a critical success, brilliantly capturing the heady atmosphere - and the pitfalls - of the late '80s and early '90s' financial free-for-all. A high-calibre cast includes veteran actors Leslie Phillips and Peter Vaughan - as Love's frequent adversary Thomas Franklyn - with Susannah Harker as his beautiful and equally capable girlfriend, Jo. Michael Kitchen, Tom Bell, Stephen Tompkinson and Louise Lombard also star in this stylish, edgy drama, complemented by Jan Hammer's memorable theme. This release comprises all 20 episodes of Chancer, digitally restored especially for this release.

Great show. Entertaining, good plot.
I've watched a lot of British TV and I've got to say that I love this show. Clive Owens is fabulous (and so young looking!) and the supporting cast is great. If you're used to modern, shallow, fast-paced TV, you won't like it. But if you like well-thought out stories that last for a while (and some great character development), then this show is for you. If you're a fan of British TV, you'll recognize Susanna Harker, Benjamin Whitrow, Simon Shepherd, and Lynsey Baxter. Totally worth a watch!

Terrible! So happy UK's tv improved so much after year 2000!!
Everything has gotten better, thank God, because I enjoy mysteries and thrillers from all over the UK too much, but this is impossible to watch, and I've noticed this is not the first time series from those years become unbearable for me.The acting, sound, make up, how they move and put cameras, lights.... and Clive Owen doesn't even look attractive! He's actually kind of annoying beyond the character.Couldn't watch. Besides everything else, the story was boring, or maybe is the way they tell it, which in most series after 2000, 2001 has changed too, and is not because they are just old because I pick a movie from 1940 before one from 2019 everytime. And there are fantastic British movies from the 60's!Moving on to find some other UK series. Or maybe is time for "The professor" season 3 from Walter Presents. I wish there were more series from Iceland available in Prime. I wish there were more series in Prime, period, without the catch of the monthly chanel$....:(

Incomplete, Missing Last 3 Episodes of Season 1
"Chancer" features a stellar cast led by a young Clive Owen. The series starts off well but the plotline starts to lag after the first several episodes. Yet the cast does a commendable job getting the audience to care enough about the characters to stick through it. Also enjoyed the nostalgia of early 90's British television...However, for some inexplicable reason, Amazon doesn't include the last 3 episodes of Season 1, leaving a huge gap in the storyline for the Season 2 opener......which, unfortunately, dissolved the continuity and makes for a non sequitur transition.

Runs out of steam
Loved the premise and the early episodes as it dealt with business and finance and the mechanics of running a business. quickly deteriorated into an emotional soap opera. Disappointed after a truly great start,.

One simplistic plot for 20 episodes
Clive Owen, as always, did his best. He has gotten better over the years. But Chancer lasted much too long and by the end, I decided to skip over five episodes and watch the last one discovering I had not missed anything.

Chancer
Yes, it's very much of its time, but the video and audio quality are spot on. Very entertaining and decently acted. The cars are the stars, though - great to see lots of 'period' vehicles.

Blast from the past
Remembered this series after seeing Clive Owen in a movie and bought this. Set at the end of the yuppie era, Owen is a likeable rogue who leads a very complicated life. Leslie Philips deserves a special mention as banker Jimmy Blake. A little dated now but well worth a watch.
