Thumb Piano Kalimba with Audio Jack, 17 Key Koa Wood Calimba Finger Harp Piano Musical Instrument Birthday Christmas Thanksgiving Gift for Kids, Adults and Beginners

I never even heard of a Kalimba (or "Thumb Piano") until I saw it as a suggestion on Amazon when I searched for another instrument. I absolutely love it!!! I just pluck out the simple melodies on the 17 tines, but I already added a bunch of songs to my notebook (even though I just bought it a week ago)!!! I already bought two more for my friends! To me, it sounds like "Japanese Wind Chimes" so even the mistakes sound beautiful! I was going to get a Mahogany one because it's a great wood for instruments until I read about Koa wood - it's a great wood that is only found in Hawaii!!! I am very impressed with everything that comes with this, the quality of the product, & how fun it is to play - all for around $30! There is a $20 one, but I wanted the additional plug-in for an amp or speaker in case I decide to use that in the future... VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED OVERALL!!!

So fun. I never needed something like this, but when I saw it advertised to me, I caved immediately. I would have bought it anyway, but when I saw it plugs into an amp, I had to have it. Loose yourself in something without a screen.The tone is nice. It really can calm you down, or at least get you good and distracted.

User Beware: Great looking/sounding and well made instrument. And the accessories included really kick it up a few notches. But be aware that, in spite of the manual stating that it "is tuned and tested well before shipment", mine was so grossly OUT OF TUNE that anything even resembling a musical scale coming out of it was completely impossible. Thankfully I have the mechanical and instrumental experience and equipment to tune mine - and now it sounds amazing. My concern is that someone without an ear for, or knowledge of, standard A-440 tuning might go forward with learning how to play their new Kalimba totally unaware that a problem is building (muscle-memory) in their performance interpretations. Anyone buying this and wishing to learn the art of Kalimba music should take it immediately to someone with instrument tuning experience. Now, with peace of mind, I'll go and enjoy mine again. This product looks great and sounds wonderful, however I was disappointed that when it arrived there was a hairline crack that then became a full break in just a few days with minimal use. Playability was largely unaffected in terms of playability but tonality was effected.

Beautiful wood - nicely finished. Tuning is only a few cents off on most keys. And they include a tuning tool! Very playable. You can pick out melodies or just noodle around. All around fun and sweet little instrument.

I was really excited to get this Kalimba for a friend. Beautiful Kia and mahogany woods and it’s big enough to use 2 hands to play. My buddy wanted to play it through his amp with effects since it’s acoustic and electric. But when it was received it had a big crack on the face of the instrument.I called the help line and they walked me through the return process and said my money will be refunded to my account in 2-4 hrs after I return the Kalimba.Long story short: Gorgeous instrument, really cool you can play through an amp, but the need to figure out the wood on the top.

I am enjoying this instrument and have found it to be intuitive and it arrived pretty much in tune. It looks well built and sounds nice. I am able to read music, so I am not using the tabs, but the ones in the booklet that comes with the instrument are easy to follow. The finger slip is wwwaaayyy too small unless you are a hobbit, but let your thumbnails grow out just a bit and you'll be fine.

I’ve recently been fascinated with kalimba music and this kalimba is just wow! It’s the little details that make this set great. The kalimba comes already tuned (and sounds amazing). I like that the little instruction booklet isn’t limited to just English. The instrument itself is light, smooth, and overall made with great quality materials. Just a warning though, the thumb protector sleeves might run a little small for some people, as it is a little small for my thumbs. Not that big a problem since the steel keys just glide nicely. If you ever get into or are interested in learning the kalimba, get yourself this set!

I like that it tunes easily and that it sustains nicely

Mein Mann hat es sich gewünscht, nachdem er es in einem Musikladen gesehen hat. Die Kalimba hat einen schönen Klang.

Hatte mehrere Calimbas zum Testen zu Hause. Diese hier riecht natürlich nach Holz (andere Modelle stanken regelrecht nach Chemie) und hat einen tollen Klang - keine "toten" Klangzungen. Die Resonanz ist extrem - die Töne klingen sehr lang und voll, daher ggf. eher für langsamere Lieder geeignet.

I ordered one of these for my grandson (he is 21) for this Christmas. The sound and the novelty of the idea is so good that I went on to purchase another one for my 56yr old brother! I ordered 3 of the slightly cheaper versions from a different supplier for the young grandchildren and there is no comparison in sound. It is not a toy. It's a really beautiful instrument. In fact my husband (who is 80) has been enjoying trying these ones out so much, that I may just need to buy one for him too! The piece of wood is quite heavy and beautifully crafted. You need to read the instructions on how to develop further sound through the holes in the back of the wood too. There's loads of pleasure to be had with these for folk of all ages. I definitely recommend this particular one.

Absolutely love this. The sound is beautiful. So easy to start to learn.
