Good writing never gets boring
I began the reading of this book and almost cried with delight. It is so delightful to read from page one, excellent writing. How refreshing it was from beginning to end.It seems and was apparent, the author had the knowledge and the experience to write this book. I had just finished, PATH TO THE VICTORY, regarding the WWII of the Mediteranean where Rommel was mentioned but did not provide the description of him I had heard of so often. This not only gave me a clear picture of Rommel, but also a quick overlook into the causes of WWI and the point of involvement of the allies in WWII. Told from the German side was indeed interesting. Highly recommend it. Sue

Informative bio
Overall, this was a very well detailed and informative biography of Rommel. At times the writing style can be disjointed and cause the reader to reread a section to get its meaning. The author can also be repetitive and slow in some spots. However, this book is packed with information and admirably sourced. The conspiracy of Valkyrie was analyzed thoroughly and Rommels degree of participation was examined in depth.

Very well written biography
Great book on arguably the best General in the German Army in WWII. Explains just about everything you’d need to know. Glad I read it because it gave me insight into the mind of this ingenious general. Nice to know that even he knew Hitler was doing horrible things to his own countrymen and others. Well worth the read.

A Great Book About The Man. Must Buy
I read some of the comments about how it doesn't tell more about his life, I say it tells a whole lot more, it tells about his personal side, mental side, and physical side; including how he became one of the top battle commanders in history. It is a perfect description of Erwin Rommel Jr. Also glad that his son helped in writing this book as well. A man of virtue and treated the surrendered enemy as human beings.

Biography of German Marshall written by British General-biographer
A political biography about the domestically famous German Marshal written by a British general-biographer. Excellent combination. No hurrah stories, but wise reflections in wider context and considerations at a distance. Well written, good read. Maybe even for a German audience.

The best tank commander.
A good read. Its about fighting for your country without any hatred whatsover.A very energetic general who treats his soldier with respect because ,they fought for you and you get all the laurels.Indeed a real Field Marshall as he is best in the battlefields rather than the cosy atmosphere of HQ type posting. Title of Ghost and desert fox have been aptly given.
