Try, try, and try again...
This is the third (!) attempt to purchase and install a satisfactory solar-powered water bubbler and I think that this one is better than the others, though less than perfect. I wanted it to sit atop a pre-existing large and heavy fountain base which is overhung by a tree and surrounded by vegetation and hence only gets direct sun for only an hour or so a day. The first attempt only worked when exposed to direct sunlight or for no more than an hour, having no reserve battery and no shut-off for when there was no longer sufficient water. The second attempt included a separate solar panel that could be placed in the full sun and a shut-off but then no back-up battery. This last and third attempt does have a separate solar panel, a modest back-up battery, and a shut-off. It works with somewhat less than direct sunlight but it is very weak in the bubbling and shuts off within a half hour of less than direct sunlight. Less than ideal. It obviously needs a more powerful, long-lasting solar battery. But then that might be prohibitively expensive. I'd say this whole thing is no more than a toy but not bad at the price, and assuming that it will last more than one summer...

Ok for what it is
The media could not be loaded. Saw this on tic toc (don't judge...LOL) on how to make a water fountain/bird bath for birds. Bought a cheap dish and bowl at a thrift store, used diamond hole drill bits to drill through the ceramic bowl (one larger hole for the actual water pump hose and several smaller holes further up on the side to allow water to drain while holding enough for the birds to bath in and drink). Used a larger bowl underneath for the actual water basin and put all of it into a pedestal planter. So far it works pretty good, the birds to make a mess and I have to clean both bowls out every other day. I've been attracting everything from small green birds to doves. Waiting for the humming birds to discover it!This solar pump is rather small so don't make the mistake of thinking it will work for a larger water fountain because it won't have enough strength to pump up very tall. For this application, it works perfect. Also this pump has a shut off sensor so if the water level drops below the sensor on the pump the pump will shut off. Great for if the water evaporates before you fill it again without having to worry about the pump burning up.I bought a 2nd one of these and made another similar bird bath and a 2nd home. The 2nd one did have a problem with intermittently shutting off so had to send it back and buy a replacement. Replacement working with no problems. In fairness to the seller, I just bought the replacement because I wanted it sooner and then did a refund on the one that was broken through Amazon. I didn't contact the seller regarding the problem.

Still working!
Still working after about a year, and what's nice it even works on moderately cloudy days. If you live in a sunny place, it will continue to work about an hour after the sun sets.

Adequate: and better than some. Seems NOT to have any battery power at all.
This pump is probably 4 x better (with regard to working in dappled/weak sun) than the VERY cheapest one that I purchased previously on Amazon (different maker). Whereas I got probably 10 minutes of run time in 12 daylight hours from the last one I purchased, this model gives out approximately 60 minutes of cumulative run time. The solar panel is of a fairly substantial construction, and the panel is quite sensitive and tries hard to work in dappled light. The pump strength seems to be adequate for my needs, but I am pumping the water up only about 10 inches of height via clear tubing, and metal piping. But I see absolutely NO evidence of any sort of back-up battery power WHATSOEVER. In fact if wasn't for the fact that I would destroy the unit, I would open it up and try to determine if indeed one really existed. It is disappointing as I purchased this unit specifically because much of my daylight is dappled, and I hoped the battery back up would make a difference. It does NOT. However the panel is sensitive enough, and the unit strong enough that I am moderately pleased with the overall effect, and for the price (sale for $24 or so), it is not a bad buy.

Dies within 4 months
The idea behind this fountain is great: a solar panel with a battery connected to a long power cable all of which is weather proof to power a fountain pump in your bird bath. The suction cups work great on my ceramic bird bath, the pump is strong and produces a high fountain if you use the spray nozzles, and the hardest part of the whole thing is mounting the solar panel somewhere it gets good sun all day, in all seasons. For the least amount of spray out of the basin, I removed the spray nozzles completely and made the neck of the fountain taller. The result is a burbling/bubbling effect that reduces the splash out but retained the water noise that attracts birds to great effect. The problem is the pump dies quickly. I make sure my birdbath is clear of debris, that algae doesn't build up and the pump stays submerged even though there is a "water detection" bar on the side to shut it off if it is out of water to make sure it isn't burning itself out. Despite all my efforts, the pump died today, not even 4 months after being put into the fountain. I've tested the panel and it is still producing power, but the fountain does nothing with the power. No jolts or twitches, just silence. The pump runs for most daylight hours, so lets be generous at 14 hours a day for 115 days (since late June when I received it), ignoring cloudy or rainy days during those 115 days when the pump doesn't get enough sunlight to run, and the pump is at 1610 hours of operation. The listing shows fountain life is greater than or equal to 10000 hours. For 16% of the expected operation time, I give it 1 star. For the time when it works, its a great fountain. The problem is you'll be buying another one, or a different fountain in 3-4 months. At least with a little bit of soldering or wire splicing, you can maybe make a solar powered USB charger out of the solar panel after the fountain dies.
