Briggs & Stratton 497680 Rewind Starter , Black

I spent a few bucks extra on this, purely because it is a genuine Briggs & Stratton starter pull, and because it's made in the USA. And,,,, the quality was apparent, exactly like the original. Now when you consider the starter pull it replaced was OEM for that mower, and the fact it's been in service over 25 years, you can appreciate that an exact replacement will probably last until the mower is dust, or I am. I'm pretty impressed here, and it takes a bit to impress me. Installation was super easy, line up the holes, replace the original rivets with the include bolts / nuts, and there you go. Easy to put that assembly back on the mower, and 8 bolts later (4 for the housing, 4 for the cover, and 2 screws to hold the top trim in place and there you go. 3 pulls on the rope, mower running again! Can't beat that.

Biggest pain on installing was removing the rivets on the original mower (manufactured 2009) so I could install the nuts and bolts on this one. OEM better than chineseium junk I ordered before. Buy nice or buy twice.Pull is smoother and it starts up faster than before!

I paid more for this OEM Briggs & Stratton to repair my Craftsman lawn mower (model #917376403).Replacement parts came in a sealed box with easy to follow instructions, drilled out 4 rivets and replaced with provided nuts/bolts that I received in kit. For me, I put a drop of lock tight on each hardware and secured my new pull starter onto my mower. It was easy to install, fits perfectly. Only time will tell on its durability, but I anticipate for this product to last since it's an OEM product of Briggs & Stratton.

I purchased this to replace a recoil/rewind starter on my power washer (Troybilt Model 20240, w/6.75hp Briggs & Stratton engine).This worked perfectly. I had to drill out the rivets holding down the original starter (be sure to use the proper sized drill bit in the instructions! This is important or the bolts supplied will not fit) then replace with this one.Replacement steps were pretty easy for this power washer. There were two screws holding the plastic covering on, a bolt holding the gas tank on, a bolt for the oil dipstick, and 4 bolts on the engine cover that needed to be removed. Easy even if you aren't that mechanically inclined. Once the old starter was removed and rivets drilled out, it was just a matter of attaching the new starter and assembling the unit back together in reverse order. There are plenty of youtube videos out there to explain and show how this process was done.Overall, I consider this an easy repair and saved me lots of money as opposed to having someone else do the work or buying a new power washer all together.

IF YOU CAN STAY WITH BRIGGS AND STRATTON PARTS. FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS AND YOU CAN'T GO WRONG. USE YOU TUBE AS AREFERENCE.

My walk-behind Briggs and Stratton lawn mower is 30+ years old. This USA made Briggs and Stratton part #497680, was a perfect fit and fix for me. It was quick and easy to install. My old part was riveted in place, and I simply spared the four nuts and bolts that came with the part, and pop-riveted the new re-winder/starter into place and was mowing the grass in 15 minutes. A perfect fit, holes and everything lined up exact, and just as important, IT WORKS! Briggs and Stratton did not "out-source" this part replacement to C H I N A, and for that, I am so very thankful. Nothing beats U.S.A. made replacement parts. Nothing!

The product was well packed with screws which replaced original rivets. You have the option to use these screws or rivet again. Easy to cut off existing rivets. I would use the screws because old rivet holes can become enlarged. This makes new rivet installation more difficult. I used slightly bigger screws for two of the four holes because of this enlargement problem. You can basically use any nut and screw you want. Just make sure the screw is short. Install was very easy. There are a lot of good tutorials on U tube for this type of work. Very pleased with product works well.
