Sebastião Salgado (Photofile)

i honestly dont know what can be said to this this justice. Its simple, a collection of stunning, thought provoking pictures by a master. But that is like saying poetry is just a bunch of characters on a page. For me, this is a view into a life of travel documentary photography at its best that i want to follow, in my own way. This is a treasure, and i imagine the whole series will prove to be the same. I also have the Henri Cartier-Bresson edition and i cant say enough about that!

One of the greatest Black and White photographers of all time.

Sebastian Salgado is a true artist, similar to the great depression-era photographers, or Margaret Bourke-White, or Ansel Adams. It is almost a sin to have the photos in this great book printed in the small book that this is. This kind of photography belongs in a large-format book, similar to Salgado's latest, GENESIS. It is unfair to shortchange this great photographer with such small prints.

For centuries, the portraitist's art has been reserved for the wealthy and powerful. The advent of the camera opened up portraiture to a wider selection of society. However, the groups still missing are the people at the very bottom. The world's marginal are Sebastiao Salgado's special purview. The depth and sensitivity of his portraits move him far beyond the artitistic palette of the photo-journalist.The Photofile series was originally produced in France with the purpose of serving as a low cost introduction to the world's great photographers. Fortunately for us, the series has been translated into English. The books are small in size but they make up for this limitation by being very well made. The paper is heavy and the photographic reproductions are first class. The books in the Photofile series are a great value and a wonderful introduction to the great photographers of the Twentieth Century. Highly recommended.

A quick introduction to the legend. It doesn't have his famous coverage of Polio and Migration. But the images of the Serra Pelada Goldmine in Brazil are iconic

HISTORIC FOTOS....! THE WHOLE SERIES OF PHOTOFILE IS TO BE TREASURED...

Formato non troppo piccolo, ottima scelta delle foto, avrei preferito vederne altre in particolare del progetto sui lavoratori, ma a questo punto dovrò comprarmi un'altro libro a parte. Carta buona, non di bassa qualità e non sottile. Interessanti anche i testi. E' un ottimo libro per avere un'idea generale di Salgado, su quello che ha fatto e sul suo modo di vedere il mondo.Sicuramente comprerò altri libri di questo grande artista, prossimi acquisti: Genesis e Workers.

E' una raccolta di immagini con didascalie dell'autore completata da una breve (troppo) biografia e analisi del "modus operandi". Valido per una consultazione spiccia e frequente, per gli appassionati che vogliono avere a portata di mano le immagini di grandi fotografi. Li uso per abituarmi ad associare l'immagine con il suo autore.

J'ai achete ce livre apres avoir vu le film "le sel de la terre" et je suis decu. Les photos, qui etaient tellement marquantes sur grand ecran, perdent beaucoup de leur force en (tout) petit format. Il vaut mieux se procurer un livre qui donne plus d'espace au foisonnement de details qui rendent les photos de Salgado si narratives.

la raccolta di questa edizione mostra foto veramente toccanti che affrontano sopratutto il problema della fame nel mondo ma raccontano anche la dignità e la fierezza di chi combatte la sua personale guerra contro le avversità della vita. Grazie Maestro
