This is very convenient to have--especially with rapidly growing, small children! It is so much easier to measure their feet at home and go to the store when they actually do need new shoes (or just buy them online). I got tired of hauling them in to the store to have their feet measured each change of season, so I got this and I'm REALLY glad I did! It is solid metal and comes with very clear, simple instructions. After reading them, I realized that most sales associates DO NOT use it properly! They are supposed to measure not only the length, but the arch length using the small piece that slides up and down the side, and take the GREATER of the two measurements as the correct shoe size. When this is not done, it can cause the toes to grow crooked and bend turned in on eachother rather than grow straight. There are very clear illustrations of this in the instructions. Whenever I have brought my toddlers in, the sales associates have always just measured according to the length only. The directions caution against doing that, as it is not an accurate measure for the correct shoe size, and may cause the toes to grow crooked. There is also a moving piece that determines the proper width.

With the speed at which children's feet grow and the constant demands on time and energy as it relates to keeping them in comfortable, quality shoes that fit, this device has been a lifesaver. My daughter has had a wide foot and high instep since birth. Like most children, she also had two slightly different sized feet. Rather than drive to a shoe store to have her properly re-measured (which could end up with three different sizes at three different shoe stores - even if the same chain - I can pull this out of the closet weekly if I want to check on how those piggies are growing). Well worth the investment.

This product came covered in black grease and millions of tiny, shimmering metal shavings. It also has four razor sharp metal edges and four razor sharp metal points on the underside - the bottom portion of one of the adjustments. There are several other areas of sharp metal on the underside that have not been completely pounded flat and could cut a child or an adult, but they are not razor sharp like the other areas.It took me half an hour to clean this thing, and my hands were covered in black by the time I was done. If we keep this product, we will use it to size our three youngest kids' feet and order shoes online (hopefully providing accurate sizing since it cost fifty eight dollars!), but it cannot safely be stored in their closets. It is currently wrapped in a junk towel to prevent injury, and stored in the top of our closet.A product meant for use by any individual should not have passed inspection with such obvious and extensive filth and safety issues, and certainly no product meant for use by CHILDREN should have passed inspection with the same. If we keep the product, we will have to use it with great care so no one accidentally gets cut. Please be completely aware of what you are getting before buying one if these very sharp units.

I'd been looking for a Brannock Device or something similar, but kept reading reviews on how disappointing the quality of the plastic ones were. So, off I went to find a metal device. When I found this one, I was thrilled. It is such a convenience to be able to order shoes online and not worry if they'll fit my little guy. The only drawback is the price. It's a tad expensive for something that your child will eventually outgrow along with their shoes, but all in all a good investment.

Glad to be able to measure kids' feet at home. Whether heading to a cheap box store to buy shoes or ordering online. The detailed instructions on how to accurately obtain a measurement solved the mystery of why one of my children (and myself) never seem to have the same size or fit twice in a row - and have trouble finding good shoes. Most "fitters" measure only the length of your foot from heel to toe. They disregard that you need to also read the length of your arch. We have this Brannock for kids and also bought the other model that measures Adults. Cheers!

No more guessing shoe sizes for online shopping! With seven kids shoe shopping is a frequent and necessary endeavor. Taking everyone out to the store only to find a small selection is a hassle. It's much easier to shop online. The problem was that I was having to make educated guesses on sizes which meant lots of returns to deal with. This has just about solved that problem. Some shoes fit big or small but reviews generally reflect this so I'm still able to make accurate sizing decisions. It's also nice to be able to see which kids need wide widths. Several of our children have needed wide widths when younger then go to regular width as their foot grows. This takes the guesswork out of deciding to get another pair of wides.
