Q: What materials can this cut? Can you cut a thin metal with it?

We haven't tried that... but it can cut thick plastic, such as credit card thickness. No thin metal here to try cutting.

You can buy celluloid or PVC sheets for this tool that includes std light(.50), medium(.73) & thick(.90 mm) pick gauges. That being said I use recycled credit cards & most std gift/rewards cards(equivalent to my preferred .60-.73 mm medium picks). Two credit cards fit in the slot with room to spare, however, 3 credit cards are just a wee bit thick to fit the slot. Been using mine for 5 years and have not spent a dime for picks since. I perform 3-4 shows a week and people love my custom picks with all the logos & pictures on them. With gift cards you can maximize space and make 4-5 picks or pick the best images and get just 2-3 really cool picks. Hope this helps you out. Good luck.

Q: How many picks can this punch on average without dulling? How many punches is it good for?

I've made several hundred from Raintree Essix C+ dental plastic, which is thicker and softer than most, without any noticeable dulling. I bought my Pick Punch specifically to use with this plastic--way better than scissors!--and don't know of any similar picks being commercially produced. I have also punched a few from harder plastics--don't use polycarbonate (cd's)! Punches can be sharpened by punching aluminum foil or very fine grit emery paper, but I haven't needed to try this.

Nothing bigger than 1/8 of an inch..it doesn't raise that high
