I wanted these for my grandsons. We do a lot of outdoor activities like hiking, kayaking and motorcycle dirt bike riding. The age range is 7-12 years old. We keep a close eye on them but there is always the possibility that someone can get lost. They seem to loose their whistles all the time. These were very inexpensive but the quality appears to be good. I read previous reviews about them not being loud, or they had sharp edges and others said they only got a few different colors. I guess we were lucky, tested all of them and they are all loud with no sharp edges and we got a variety of different colors.

Amazing whistles for price point. Loud and shrill sound and they all work perfectly. Random variety of colors were received.

EDITED after some experience with the product, knocked off 1 star. Not quite loud enough for personal protection, I believe, but great for whistling up your dog or even kids.I bought two sets of these to distribute to kids and grandkids and great-grandkids at Thanksgiving. But not to the little ones who were too young and ... well no need to promote more noise in a family residence, is there?<G>These are pretty small (less than 2" long) and nowhere near as loud as I had hoped. The first time you try to blow one you will probably get no whistle from it because your lip will partly cover the hole that generates the sound. I think something more like a "Police Whistle" that is much larger and louder might be better. This one could take a little practice to use.<G>Dogs should hear the shrill sound and might be trained to come to it.

These whistles are perfect for adding to our adventure pack and sending the boy out ahead of us to explore. These with a little sheet for whistle blast meanings and we feel so much better with him out of sight in the woods :)

These tiny whistles are LOUD. It hurt my ears when I blew into it but thats ok, they will be attached to our hydration packs for hiking. Variety in colors was good as well. I received 5 black, 2 silver, 1 red and then 3 each of the green, purple, blue and gold. Overall very pleased with them.

I really liked the quality of these little whistles. I feel like they are a quality toy to include in my Halloween goody bags. Nice bright colors and LOUD. The dog next door was like "what the..." when I blew it inside!
